Handled (fondled?) a new Colt Python 4"..

We've got two of them, both 4.25 inch. To be honest, I don't know enough to pronounce something as "best" or "better than" something else, but I sure do like those guns. Magnum ammo, or wadcutters, doesn't matter. They just shoot.

Is the cylinder length the same as the old pythons? To use 168 gr cast bullets in my old python I have deep seat them in the case.

Why did you change the sights? And to what?

Colt uses a different design adjustable rear sight on their new revolvers…not interchangeable with the old Accro or Elliason sights.

Many have complained about the new sight…Wilson Combat has designed a replacement that users have raved about. Magazine writers have praised the new factory sight…I ascribe that to not wanting to insult an advertiser.

Personally I’ve had no problem with the new sight…I tend to adjust them, lock them in place and not change it further. I do plan on trying out the new Wilson sight just to give a fair comparison.

Thanks for the info.........Hard to swallow having add a $200.00 sight to a $1500.00 gun to make work it right. Good Luck

I changed the sights to the Wilson Combat. U-Notch rear and Gold bead front on the 3" and Just the Square notch on the 6". I didn't realize how much I didn't like it until I had them. I started with the 3" out of personal preference for the U-Notch on a defensive gun. The Wilson's are more robust, easier to adjust, as well as more responsive to being adjusted. I ended up changed the 6" rear because after having the Wilson on the 3" I couldn't stand that curved bubble under the sight picture. It wasn't so bad that I couldn't live without it, but the Wilson was worth it to me. I could move the factory sight side to side with my fingers. Definitely can't do it with the Wilson sight. If you're going to lock the sight down and use Kentucky windage to adjust aim, and you aren't considering it for defense use I would describe the factory sights as being adequate.

I don't know the measurements on an original, but I put my calipers on mine just now, front of cylinder to the back of a case measures 1.605. so as long as your COL is under 1.6 you should be fine?

Ref post #20. Well I did indeed add the Anaconda to the family. I too added the Wilson front and rear sights and took it for a sight in session at 10y. Gun performed flawlessly only needing a touch of down and right adjustment. May need to add one click back left pending next range session and another application of Bengay.
