Handled the ruger lcr

Been hearing and reading about these forever and had in my mind to swap my smith 642 for one.
429. and fit and finish was nice. Light and really liked the grips. Trigger was smooth but not as light as everyone wrote. Liked the pinned front sight which gives some options, but I'm not sure I'd be gaining a whole lot by giving up the 642.

Had a chance to look one over two on Friday. The first thing I noticed was it is a rattle trap. Don't know what was loose inside (transfer bar?), but the things sounded like they were broke.

I have had one in my hands on several different occasions, they do shake rattle and roll. I think that they are an interesting design, but I for one am not replacing any S&W snubs.

At $429, you'd have to be insane to want to trade a Smith for one! If you do acquire one, just be ready for ridicule at the range, and be prepared to send it back to Ruger for the inevitable recall that will occur!

They may function well, I don't know. But I know one damn thing: that is without a doubt the UGLIEST gun I have ever laid eyes on in my life. Trading a Smith of ANY model number for it would be like trading Teri Hatcher for Rosanne Barr. Just like life is too short to spend it with an ugly woman(or women), so is it too short to spend it getting intimate with carrying an ugly gun as well.

I agree it is the ugliest revolver I have ever seen...I also do not like the fact that it is plastic..One of the main reasons I stay with the revolver is that it is all metal...If I want a plastic gun I will go shoot and carry my Glocks.....

I guess time will tell. An interesting concept and, if they've managed a quantum leap in trigger smoothness/lightness for a snub, that would be a really good thing. But, I just bought a brandy new 642 without internal lock and expect to be carrying it for a while ;-)

I may own some tupperware bottom feeders, but I am not going to own a tupperware revolver. And yes I agree they are ugly.

I could be wrong, but I think Ruger revolvers rattle because the transfer bar is sort of free floating.

I am intrigued enough that I think I would like to try one. I would not, however trade off a 642 for one before I knew exactly what it was going to be like to shoot and carry--especially not a no-lock 642. I am not in any great hurry to get one right now though, and would not be surprised to see the price come down a bit after some of the initial demand is met.

I generally have a "classics" kind of taste in most everything but am not at all offended by the LCR's looks (as seen in photos, not yet in person); and if the gun lives up to the reviews I have seen, I think Ruger will sell plenty.

I think its some cool innovation and engineering, but what was the driving force that made them try plastic? Is it waterproof? It wouldn't do any good without waterproof bullets also...maybe I could get one on my boat and put it in a plastic holster. Still, if I fell in, I'm not sure it would shoot. Just joking, but I do prefer metal revolvers. I have a plastic SA XDm, but really prefer metal. B

A quick search on Gunbroker reveals at least 6 of these things with bids of $500 and up - several approaching the vicinity of six "Ben Franklin's". Unbelievable...

Told a Ruger rep at a local gun shop's "Ruger Days" that it was so ugly I would be afraid to take it home for fear the dog would roll in it!

Only handled one so far. A customer paid in advance for the first one through our store. It does have quite a few rattles; could double as maracas. Gotta be more than the transfer bar. Overall I didn't care for it, although the cylinder profile is pretty cool.

You might or might not gain anything, but you'd be better off talking to the guys on the Ruger Site, 'cause unlike these guys (so far), some of them have actually fired an LCR.
