I think we all know about the Model 14, four inch guns sold through Dayton Gun, and we have seen the ad referring to the revolver as a "Hannen Special."

Who was Hannen and what is the story on that name? Anyone know for sure?

Thank you.

94 looks and no replies. Sorry, I have never bumped a post before, but someone has to know the answer to this.

For what it's worth, the original flyer says "Hanen Special" (no double "n").

You are absolutely correct, and I am embarassed. It is Hanen, and I should have looked at my copy of the flyer before writing the post.

I guess that puts me in the Dunderhead category.

OK, so who is "Hanen" and how is he special? :)

I bought one in a shop that is owned by a S&W collector. I was told that in the '60's a gun wholesale outfit in Ohio called Wames (unsure of spelling, e pronounced as "e") requested them of S&W. I have read information to this effect in books on S&W. I was told that Hanen was an agent of the company. More than this, I don't know.

Three of us Michigan shotgunners used to go to Wammes every couple of months. Always stopped at Jacqua's in Findlay, Ohio, first in order to walk behind the counters and swing all of their $50,000 gold-encrusted over-and-unders and SxS's. That was almost 40 years ago. I believe Wammes is(was) southwest of Findlay, and may be what is now called Buckeye Sports, but not certain. As FFL's, we used to get some great buys, and each of us would bring home a shotgun, usually Remington model 1100 28-gauge field guns or whatever. Those were the days, along with Vandalia trap in the summer.

I used to go to Wamme's often, both the old small store and the later larger one on the main street (route 68). When they went to wholesale only they became Acusport.

I believe that the Dayton (Hanen) specials were from Outdoor Sports Headquarters in Dayton, OH.
