Happy Thanksgiving to all....I'm travelling naked to New York!

VA lost reciprocity/recognition with PA after a VA resident studying law at Temple had to shoot a politically connected thug in defense of self and others (search Phily Inquirer for Gerald Ung, I've always wondered if he finished law school) There are PA counties that will issue an out of state permit, but you have to apply in person.

VA does honor a PA permit.

Rather than risk trying to deal with the subject of reciprocity by the side of the road at night, I obtained a non-resident Virginia carry permit. They are available by mail. Check the web site for the Virginia State Police.

Thanks all for the comments...I've decided to wear clothes

Ok....I will wear clothes and no I'm not going anywhere near New York City.

Like said MD is touchy depending on local police. These days with computers I assume if a LEO wants to run your plates for whatever reason, the data bases may just come back with info that you are licensed to carry in whatever State.

Assuming you get through MD then PA with maybe trouble, maybe not...

Some states like said allow you to carry through if locked in a lock box in the trunk. Problem....my 2019 Ford Explorer has no trunk..it is a SUV with all areas accessible so I suppose it would be up to a local judge you are standing in front of to interpret whether you "had access" or not.

In any event, also as posted numerous times... New York is the problem. Which is actually funny for me at least because when the sitting Court Judge of Allegany County, New York issued my New York permit to carry a pistol in January 1971 I was told that it was a "lifetime" permit. No expiration, no renewal, and since I have never received any notice of revocation from New York State, I suppose one could assume that it is still good to go.

Nope...........I'm not in the mood to test it!

I do have (did have) a New Jersey permit also all signed and stamped by the officials of Camden County where I lived and worked for several years, but alas....that one was automatically revoked upon me surrendering my NJ auto plates and NJ Drivers License when permanently moving to Virginia in 1988. Those terms were in writing on the NJ permit if I recall. I'll have to dig it out of files and see if the photo is as scary as the NY one:D

Like said....it is now 8:07 am Monday morning and sounds like wife is ready to go (put my stuff in the car last night) so see all you fine folks later (travel with my old laptop so I don't miss any good Forum treasure pics).

Have a great Turkey Day!!!

Nowadays you can keep your NY pistol permit when you move. Just let the NYSP know with your new address.

Going through MD is terrifying, even that short piece up I81.

Had my permit almost as long as you!

NY does things the hard way. They realy can put you into a serious problem if for example you leave the state permanently and do not notify the pistol permit people. After a while its is then deemed revoked and guess what happens when you go to buy a gun in you new state.

You fill out the form and sign it saying you have never had a permit revoked/suspended ETC. You have just lied on a Federal form and it could get quite interesting!

Where exactly is that statement on the 4473? I must have missed it over the years . . .

I was going from memory, which as I get older is not doing as good as I would like!. Its been a few years since I bought a new gun at a dealer. Up till recently in this state you did not have to go through a dealer to buy a long gun in a private purchase.

With that said It appears I might have confused that with the out of state carry permits I got. I most definitely remember seeing and hearing a couple of horror stories.

Mea culpa

Dave, I think that is, or was, on the NYS PP app. Seem to remember that but it was moons ago.

Every license application I've filled out, MA, NH, ME, RI, PA, and finally TX has a question about ever having a permit revoked or application denied, so your confusion is understandable.

One of the benefits of having a TX LTC is that while I have to do a 4473 if I buy from a FFL, they don't have to run a NICS check.

Also if I buy from a fellow Texan there is nothing other than an exchange of Driver's Licenses or the fact that he is personally known to me required.
