Happy to see a Dr. open carrying at his practice this morning!

About 10 years ago at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital just outside of Philly a patient turned up at his psychiatrists office with a .32 revolver and started shooting. He killed one person before the shrink pulled out his own concealed .32 pistol (either a Seecamp or KelTec, I forget which) and shot the psycho. The DA ruled it a good shoot, the hospital expressed annoyance at the shrink carrying a gun in violation of their rules, and it seemed like everyone involved filed a lawsuit against someone.

The shrink was asked why he carried a gun in his office, his answer boiled down to "because my patients are crazy". Hard to argue with that logic.

His younger female Nurse Practitioner mentioned that she carries at work too, but concealed...

I think that's great! Responsible people with common sense, that's what we need.

A few years back in Oklahoma, when I was off-duty, I went to the ER for severe back pain and the nurse had nothing better to do than complaining about my gun and badge, wanting to send me back outside so I could put it in the car. I said no and luckily the Dr. walked in at that time. That Dr. has seen me before, knows what I did for a living, and he didn't mind at all. The nurse was upset but I really didn't care. This is what people get upset about? But when a highly combative crazy person, perhaps high on whatever and/or even armed, comes in then you sure wish someone was there to help you...

A Doctor that I have gone to for years is very much into guns and ammo. We have spent hours discussing same. I have never seen him carrying but it is pretty certain that each desk in his three patient rooms holds a firearm. I have not seen them but I know him.

Years ago had a pain management Md that carried. Was waiting in his waiting room when heard " a woman using " sailor language", screaming and kicking things. She burst through the exam room area door still cussing and yelling, out office door into elevator still cussing. I asked the nurse what was that about? She and the Md. said just a doper that used her script in a few weeks rather than a month. Md and I had a nice gun talk after the exam.
My current Uro. is a target shooter, will get him to go to local indoor range soon.
