Hey guys,

Surfing from a phone at work and couldn't find any threads on this so sorry in advance if there are some.

Anyways... THE RIFLE CAME IN YESTERDAY!!!!! Can't wait to go shoot it. Had to put the computer away to keep from buying anything else for it after i grabbed a scope and a cheap quad rail. The only disappointment was that the gun no longer comes with the hard case. Anyone have any suggestions? I'd like to keep it around the size of the box that the gun ships in as it seems like it would JUST fit both the rifle and a dedicated .22 upper.I'd like to keep it relatively cheap, but obviously sturdy enough to protect my new obsession. Extra points for cheap aluminum cases!

I bought the Flambeau Safe Shot Gun Case and it holds my Sport and my Marlin 60W. Pretty well made and sturdy for a plastic case.

I know you said inexpensive but I got the Pelican 1750 last week. Its a wonderful case, water tight, indestructable, has wheels on it too. Will probably out last me. The 1750 is 50" long but they have a 1720 thats shorter, maybe 36" inside length.

Hayden.

I have both a Flambeau and a Plano...they are good cases, My sniper rifle in one and my lever action in another, the rest of my rifles are in soft bags and I never have had (knock on wood) a problem with either. Although Midway has some cool Zombie tactical gun cases on sale and If I needed one I would probably snatch one of those up.

The last place you really want to buy "cheap" is when it comes to buying a case.
I recently purchased a Pelican 1750 (53''), and I have to say, definitely money well spent. It's waterproof, shock resistant, and easy to move with it's built in rollers. I purchased it for $180 through MidwayUSA. That may sound like a lot but when you're carrying close to $4,000 worth of Firearms and Optics, I would consider it a wise investment.
I can carry 2 ARs and 4 handguns securely and easily.
It comes with 3 foam inserts, the Idea is that you will cut holes in the center piece, in order to keep your firearms from moving around. However, I found that my ARs didn't move around at all if I simply removed the center piece of foam, this gives me more versatility in what I can choose to carry in my case. Hand guns however, tend to slide around, using this method. A cheap and easy fix I found for that issue was to go to a local upholstery shop, and buy a 3/4'' piece of foam about 1/3 the length of the case and about the same density as the foam that came in the case, and place it under the bottom piece of foam on the side I'm going to be carrying my handguns.

Thanks for all of the opinions, all. I have a lot to look at haha. The gun won't be getting moved much, I just want something to be able to lock it in to keep kids out (I'll be storing it at a family member's house in Ohio while I'm at college... yay Jersey). I figure anything is safer/more durable than the cardboard box it came in!

Now I just have to decide whether to bite the bullet (no pun intended) and buy a nice case now or later.

I personally wouldn't store it in a case. I've seen long guns come out of hard cases with rust on them.

If you HAVE to store it that way, be sure you include desiccant (plenty of it) to absorb moisture....and be sure to wipe down everything with a good rust inhibiting oil.
