Has anyone been able to remove the thread protector from the M&P Compact .22?

Are you talking about the suppressor adapter that comes on the M&P Compact SUPR READY?
Someone else posted that is doesn't fit because of the shoulder.

Correct. Eric got right back to me and said to grind the wrench a little, or I could send it back. I told him I could grind it.

Worked with Eric on getting the sparrow shoulder right. He is very focused on doing things the proper way.

Cool. I just sent Eric a caliper measurement for the shoulder on my suppressor adapter. He is interested in making these wrenches right. A great sign of customer service.

And the story continues.

Just got off the phone with Customer Service (CS) for the 5th and 6th time and still do not have an answer as to getting a replacement wrench for the suppressor adaptor that broke.
The first two calls were to verify the procedure of removal which were given to me wrong. The 3rd call was to report the broken wrench which the CS rep said he would put one in an envelope and get it right out to me. (This all took place on the day I received the gun!)

5 working days later I called again since the wrench had not arrived. I was told by this CS rep that he could not find any indication that a wrench had been sent but that if it had, it could possibly take 12 to 13 working days in the mail.
The next call was on day 14 and I was told that there were no wrenches available. End of story.

Today I spoke to two different CS agents. The first one was very nice and tried a number of things without any luck so he forwarded me to someone that he thought knew more about it.
What he knew was that all the wrenches were removed from stock and placed in some sort of kit. With that he transferred me back to the other rep who had gotten busy and I got an answering machine. I am now waiting for him or someone to call me and tell me what they recommend I do.
I had very good luck with CS on other occasions involving my Shield, but this is Ridicules:(.

TEAMFOUR, if Eric gets a wrench that fits, let me know!

WHOOOOOOPEEEEEE !!!!!
A NEW WRENCH ARRIVED THIS AFETRNOON MADE OUT OF WHAT WOULD APPEAR A MUCH STRONGER METAL THAN THE ORIGINAL WHICH LOOKED LIKE pot metal!
It was shipped on the 19th from an address in PADUAHK KY. which makes me think it may be from the manufacturer directly.
Anyway, with a lot of heat from a hair dryer, and all the strength I could muster, it came loose.
Case closed!!!!!
Now to find a thread protector cap like is on the standard barrel.
Anyone know of a source?????

In never rains but what it pours!!!!!
Today in the mail, I received a second wrench.
No note nor explanation.
THANKS , to whom ever sent it!!!

I used a hair drier to heat the thread protector and adapter while trying not to heat the barrel. It came off with less force that I had placed on it when it was at room temp. Heating the barrel and adapter will defeat the use of heat, you want only the adapter to expand, not the barrel.
Placing the firearm in the freezer for 30 minutes then dipping the protector and adapter in some very hot water may work better than a dryer or heat gun. The heat can be controlled to where you want it, so you keep the barrel cold and get the adapter hot.

I didn't use WD40, nor would I. It's not really a penetrating oil nor a very good lubricant. Since the adapter is not rusty, I passed on using a quality penetrant such as Liquid Wrench, JB Blaster or Kroil.

i guess i was lucky, i just bought one new, and the thread protector came off easily, the adapter just required minor force to remove it.

MP 22 barrel Cap/Nut

I just got my MP 22 yesterday & I looked for a way to get the barrel Cap/Nut removed. My Cap/Nut did not even have the flats on it for a wrench. So it was really tight & would not come off with normal pressure. So I found the barrel Cap/Nut does have a THREAD LOCKER on it from S&W. Thread locker of any type or brand melts at 240 degrees. This thread locker was brown in color. This is how I removed mine easily. I wrapped the plastic end of the plastic lower with 3 or 4 rounds of tape to protect it from the heat I was going to apply. I clamped the rear of the barrel in a set of Padded jaws in a vise. I next carefully used a Map or Propane small torch & heated just the Cap/Nut for about 15 seconds. I let the heat soak for another 10 to 15 seconds. Then using a pair of Channel Locks with the jaws padded with a few rounds of thick heavy duty tape, unscrewed the Cap/Nut.

THREAD PROTECTOR REMOVAL

Hi! I solved the problem as follows: I took a standard 10 mm (13/32”) wrench and I milled up to a thickness of 0.09” and an opening of 0.415”, then I warmed up (just a little, 5 seconds!) the bushing screwed on the barrel .
Be careful not to overheat the polymer frame! I interposed a piece of sheet metal to deflect the heat .
I inserted the modified wrench on the bushing... 2 seconds with little effort, done!
See pictures.
P.S.: sorry for my bad english!

That's where I'm at... broken wrench. I'm NOT sending the dang thing back though!!! I'm as stubborn as it is!!

If you call S&W customer service they will probably send you a new wrench.
Then take a hair drier or other heat gun and warm up the end and it will be a little easier.

There is no reason to spend more on a one-size one-use wrench.
If you're patient you can try S&W for wrenches, but if you're looking for a wrench to buy, get one of these.

Just got my girlfriend a 22 compact suppressor ready. Not that we're ever going to use a suppressor but the shop had that one for 320 and the regular one for 350. So I thought to myself, hell if I ever do get a class 3 I've saved myself 30 or 40 bucks for the adapter. Plus the 30 bucks I'm saving on the gun. Took the thing to the range and we love this little gun.

Then we get home and I go to clean the thing and snap the wrench off slicing up my thumb in 3 or four places. I say slice.. They're just little cuts that drew blood but the hurt like a bitch.

So I'm taking a regular wrench out to my brother's tomorrow so he can grind it down to fit. Such fun. . . I think I'll be ordering the other barrel adaptor. :p

Since I didn't care about the condition of the protector after it was off, I heated it up a little a gently (relative term) used a small pair of Channel locks. The protector came right off and there is barely a mark on it.

Got the M&P 22 Compact Barrel Nut off like this

Broke the supplied wrench included with the Compact 22. I was only using my hands and it snapped one of the edges right off. Called S&W and they are sending new wrench. S&W rep said to tap lightly with hammer. Did more research and one said to put in freezer and I did for about 10 minutes. This may have helped. Found video, where a guy made his on wrench by grinding down a 11 mm cheapo Husky. Had a Harbor Freight Pittsburgh wrench so I thought I would try that. I did and it fit much better and was much stronger than the S&W wrench. Put my M&P Compact in the vice and used the wrench and hammer tapping method. Nothing was giving. Finally just used brute force and cranked on it with all my strength and it popped and broke free.

No problem

I bought my M&P 22 today and had no issues removing the adapter...took just a little bit of effort....either I have old man strength or just got lucky...

I got mine off - it shouldn't be a big deal.

You have to get it off if you wanna do this with it:

Like a BOSS...

That looks great! I'm considering picking a MP22C up for my Spectre 2
