I am in love with my new 645 (well it is actually a 4506)...so I was wondering what else I might want in a S&W .45.

Not familar with any of the 4" models...so give me some ideas.

Sorry kids...no money to college fund this month...Daddy got himself another S&W!

This would make a fine companion.

You know you're doomed don't you? The Smith 45 is a very slipery slope.

Cat

Aww, hell the entire 3rd gen is a slippery slope! 4566 would be a nice companion piece or a 4516.

Would both of these models take my mags for the 645? I guess I would like to look for a smaller model that will take the same mags...would help out $ wise.

Thanks for the suggestions...and yes it is a slippery slope. Also got to shoot my new 686-1...and while I have always loved my Ruger Security-Six...the 686-1 has a trigger like butter.

I believe most of the 45's have an interchangeable mag. The 645 mag might hang futher out of mag well on the 4516 as it is a more compact model, and I believe takes 7 round mags instead of 8.

S&W 45 series 3rd Gen mags are the same other than length, 4506, 4566 etc are 8 round, 4516, 4513, 457 etc are 7 round and the CS45 are 6 round. So the 8 round mag will work in a 4516 just stick out the bottom a little but the 7 round will not work in a 4506. The 4516 series are good compact 45's.

Guys, guys, guys. What he needs is the quintessential S&W 45, the 745 (unless you can find the 845 variation and have a third college fund to blow!!). I have two of them with the Millet sights and to say "tack drivers out of the box" would be an understatement.

Just picked up an almost brand new S&W P99 in 0.45. Tried it today with copper clad 200 grain SWCs. Not too happy as I reload to leave about a half a millimetre of "edge" in front of the rim. My 645 and the 745s love that load, the P99 hung up on every other round. Guess it is back to the 230 grain hardball with the smooth ogive. Now all I have to do is load some, as the only other 45 I have that is picky is a Norinco 1911A1. Hardball only. Dave_n

I have the SW in 45 too and I shoot it almost as good as my 645. It does love hardball.

I would grab some other size variations. I did the 4506-1 first, then a CS-45 and finally a 4553TSW.

Surf thru the couple of picture threads to get some ideas.

You NEED one of these...4566 TSW

Smith 45

I would also vote Model 745 they are nice guns and not too expensive.
I have a Smith Model 645 and a gold rollmarked 10 years of IPSC
Model 745. I shoot my 1911's more but I do like my Big , Bad Smith 45's too.

Since you already have a "heavyweight" you might consider looking at a compact 3rd gen for a back-up. The most compact would be a CS45, then a 4513, both with alloy frames. If you want alittle more weight, go for a 4516 basically the same as a 4513 with an all stainless frame. All with barrels less than 4". My favorite in .45 is my 4513TSW then the 4566TSW.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. Since I do have the big-boy...I guess I would like to find more of a compact model like the 4513.

I am in the hunt for a 5906 and a 6906...and have let many go by because of a lack of funds.

I thought I would be in a good place having a full and compact S&W in 9mm and .45.

Thanks again...

Okay, here we go. You need a 645, 745, 845, 457, 4506, 4506-1, 4563, 4566, 4513, 4516, 4553, 4583, 4586, 4546, 4526, 4567, 4576, 45 Recon, 45 CQB, 4513TSW, 4553TSW, 4583TSW, 4586TSW, 4563TSW, 4566TSW, etc., etc., etc. When you get all those let me know and I will see if I can think up a few more. ;)
