Today while doing my usual window shopping in my local gun shop I saw a S&W 686-4 in the gun case sporting a cool pair of Ahrends. I asked the owner could I take a look at it and once it was in my hands the gun felt extremely familiar to me. As I checked the timing and lock-up I really could feel that I had previously owned this revolver. I wasn't 100% sure at that moment but the connection I felt was too strong for it not to be true. After fondling the 686-4 for a few more minutes I put a couple dollars down on it and left. When I finally got home this evening I went through my paperwork a discovered that my intuition was correct. I bought that 686-4 in 9/2006 and sold it off like a dummy in 7/2007. Whats the odds of that same 686-4 reuniting with me 3yrs & 10 months later after I sold it, talk about karma. I hope you all enjoyed my story. If you have a similar story please share.

I don't have any similar stories, or at least not yet, but I am glad that things worked out well for you. With this stroke of luck, you might consider buying a lottery ticket. Congratulations.

Neat story because they seldom come back to you!
I traded back into a 3" 629 I had previously owned a few weekends ago. When I entered the info into my spreadsheet I noticed that it came back into my possession on our 5-year wedding anniversary.
I think I'll be holding onto it as the traditional 5-year anniversary gift is wood & silver. Wooden combats on stainless steel is close enough for me!

I had one of the H. H. Harris Chief Specials with the adjustable sights which I purchased from a dealer in my home town of Passaic, NJ in the 1960's. After finishing school I moved to Kalamazoo, MI and finally sold the gun to a police officer who went to armorers school at S&W and had it refinished in nickel. H e later sold it to a collector in Wild Rose, WI which is my wife's hjometown. Vould you believbe a gun purchased in my hometown in NJ, sold to a police officwer in my current place of residence winds up in my wife's hometown in WI.

I have had a few instances where I sell a friend one of my guns and it makes its way back after a few years and 1 or 2 local buyers,

Also have seen a gun for sale and pass only to regret it, Then some time down the road it ends up finding me again.

Kinda reminds me of that saying...

If you love something let it go if it comes back to you it was meant to be, And if it doesnt come back...... Hunt it down and kill it!
Just kidding..

I sold a 686 no dash with 6 inch barrel to a friend many years ago and a few years later he asked me to buy it back for what he paid me. I said sure and the deal was done. Then a few years after that he asked me to sell it back to him for the same price. " I said sure but I'm not as pawn shop" and sold it back to him.

The price this thing was exchanging hands between us was $250 each time. This is where the story gets wierd. A couple of years later the revolver was stolen from his home. He filed an insurance claim for the revolver and other stolen items and the insurance company paid him $700 for the revolver.

I've since replaced my hole in my revolver collection with another no dash 686 with 6 inch barrel for $500. I have always wondered if it was could be the old one that was stolen as I never kept the serial numbers back then of my guns. I do now keep the serial numbers and I doubt that it's the same one but the thought that maybe it was always lingers in my mind.

Good story and interesting luck. Did you get the story of where and how it went from your hands into the gun shop? and the difference of price from your selling to buying again?

Great story Roboto!

Mine happened just this weekend. On May 1, 2004 I bought a 686-4 that was in nearly new condition, from a local shop that no longer exists. Three months later I had a pile of unexpected medical bills to pay. I sold the S&W to a friend of my father-in-law. He told me that any time I wanted it back he would sell it to me.

In the mean time I bought a 586 to replace the 686 (I like blued guns better). Fast forward to this spring. My father-in-law's friend has terminal cancer and he is getting rid of his firearms so his wife will not have to deal with them. He told me how much he hated to part with this one, but was glad it was coming back to me, and he sold it back to me for exactly what he gave me seven years ago (it sat unfired in his safe the entire time).

I picked it up Sunday, and I noted when updating my records that it was also May 1--seven years to the day of when I first bought it!

I've posted this photo elsewhere, but here are the two 4" '86s, together at last:
