I had a set of XS big dot sights put on my shield by a gunsmith. I think he may have put used ones on my gun. The lettering on the front sight is nearly worn off. The white dot looks more dull then bright white. I was also given the impression the tritium would glow a bright green. I can bearly see it in the dark.

What do you guys think, should I take it back?

Ok I found out how to tell the manufactured date and they were made in 2014. Maybe I was just expecting the to be brighter they what they are?

They may have been damaged in the install, but it sounds as though you are not familiar with tritium sights. They should be bright enough to see clearly in low light, but not as bright as a fiber optic sight on a sunny day. Hope this helps.

Have him take a brand new set out of the box in front of you, look at them in the dark. compare to what you have now.
Good 'smith with good customer service should have no issue doing this for you! Good luck!

You will able to see the glow in a dark room with remove it from the box. I still have my in the box.

You May Have Purchased The Standard One

Big Dot's sights come in two sizes for the front sight. One is
BIG and the other is much smaller. The rear sight is just a
white line for the Shield at this time. I intend to call the manufacturer and see when (they surly will) they'll come out with
Trintium on the rear sight line.
I have Ameriglo for one Shield. Both rear and front are Tritium.
The front is small similar to the standard front sight on the Big Dot
ones. You may not have selected the large size front sight.

The advise to talk to your gunsmith is the best way to go.
Do go to the Big Dot sight itself and you'll see where you make the choice between the large front one and the standard front one.
Good luck with your Shield.
