I've always had a real fondness for the .22 WMR cartridge, and love my model 48-2 so much I got a 48-3 to go with it. :D

Now, if I can find a magnum kit gun to be a little brother for those two to take care of!

I'm going to take some pics and post them, but if you have a nice pic of your favorite 48 (or any other .22 mag for that matter, let's see 'em. :)

OK for you. I never get tired of posting this very early M48-0 # K 368119 no XXX's, shipped 7-16-1959. Second month of production. I have one box of rare 1959 vintage Remington ammo for it too. Big Larry

Here is an original 1959 box of first production ammo in 22 magnum caliber. I have seen only two boxes of this ammo and one is for sale on Joe Salters site for $125 I think. It is not nearly as nice as this one. Big Larry

What do you experts think a M48 no dash with a 6" barrel all numbers matching in about 95% condition is worth? I came across an early one at a local gun show for $1,300 asking price.

I paid $650 for the one I pictured and it is a good 98%+ and 2nd month of production. I think $1,300 for a 95% 6 inch is a tad high. That's closer to what a 8 3/8" 4 screw would bring at around $900 to $1,000 and they are much scarcer. Big Larry

I gave $107.00 for this one

IIRC, it was a 48ND, a former LE evidence gun. The bore and chambers were clean, but this thing had been bloodied at some point and was in severe need of refinishing. I sold it to a friend for what I gave for it and he sent it back to the factory. I did not care for it, my S&W 650 is much lighter and handier to carry.

The 8 3/8ths inch barrel 48 is the one S&W that has successfully avoided my grasp!Never saw one in any gun store yet. I've been the second guy in line a couple times here on the forum.
The only .22WMR's I have are a 1970's vintage Colt Frontier Scout Buntline 7.5 inch and an early 1980's Ruger Single-Six 9.5 inch which is outstandingly accurate with WMR ammo. They need a Smith to play with!

Here is my Model 48 8 3/8" I purchased recently. No turn line I can see except maybe with a magnifying glass. I paid $650.00 in July. I have never owned a .22 Magnum of any type and actually was just able to find some ammunition at Walmart last Saturday. I think I will be shooting it soon? Brian

That's an unusual serial number! My no dash is lettered with shipping date 8/60 (K404xxx)
You got a deal. I learned to shoot a handgun when this one was new, it was my fathers. I inherited it in '75, sold it in '79 for chemo treatments for my late wife, and found it again (on this forum) 12/2012, and brought it home.

According to my Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson the serial number should be 1974. That is sad you had to sell your Model 48 but great you were able to purchase it back. I am looking forward to putting a few rounds through mine. Brian
