Ever since I got my shield 9mm I have been really focused on becoming an accurate shooter with it. I had the trigger done, put Talon rubber grips on it and now love it. I am by no means a sniper with it but I can shoot it pretty well now. I have a set of Ameriglow sights coming for it as well, this is my EDC.
My FS .40 has become my HD weapon and I hadn't shot it in about a month.
I took it out today and was pulling low right (I'm left handed).
I was a bit surprised, I figured after shooting the shield all this time a full sized gun would be easier to keep on target. The kick of the .40 threw me (I was shooting 165gr) I have a bunch of 180 I need to shoot , I think I liked the 180 better when I was regularly shooting this weapon. Does anyone else here actually shoot a smaller gun better than a full size? I'm almost to the point of getting rid of it and getting something like a 9C, or was it the kick of the .40? Maybe a FS 9mm would suit me better?
I really am surprised by this.

It's quite possible that the recoil was causing a flinch and also having you snatch the trigger a little. That's the stereotypical cause for what you are experiencing. Also, if the aftermarket trigger in your Shield is substantially lighter / crisper than your FS40, it could be affecting your trigger control as well.

Some people do shoot smaller guns better, but most do not... at least not for reasons mostly attributed to the sight radius. It's possible that the Shield simply fits your hand better. Going to a 9C might not be a way to improve your shooting as the feel is more like the FS than the Shield.

Of course, if you're just trying to justify getting a new gun, then think whatever you need to in order to justify the purchase... I'm certainly guilty of rationalizing my way into new guns. :-)

I think this is exactly it. The snap off of the 165gr threw me and caused me the snatch the trigger.
I think I'll have to get out there again tomorrow with some 180gr and spend some more time with this thing.
I had both triggers down to 5.5 pounds, the trigger on my .40 is actually really sweet, I think it's been a while since I shot this thing and the recoil off of the 165gr was causing me to snatch the trigger.
I don't know why but I'm jonesing for a 9C...........I really don't know why LOL!

I used to own a 9C. It was a good little gun... if you want one, you should get one. However, realistically, if you have both a FS and a Shield, it's unlikely that you'll find a real niche for it that isn't better filled by one of your current guns. But, like I said, guns are more than just tools to me... so I certainly understand buying a gun "just because I want it".
