Eight.months.from the.announcement of the 929 to the finding of the first one. The second came easily when I tried to buy a holster for the first one, it just jumped into the holster and came home with me.

I had been saving 44 special range brass for years and had a one gallon bag almost full. My buddy got one of the Ruger/Lipseys in 44 special so I gave him the whole bag. At that point I had just about given up trying to find a S&W 44 special. Don't you know next show I find a 6.5" bbld 624 in the box with all the goodies. And had to source some starline brass to shoot in it. So sometimes your search can be a few months or a few years. After the 624, in about a years time I had a 24-3 3"bbl and a 24-3 4" bbl revolvers. Sometimes you find it when you aren't looking and sometimes it finds you. Frank

Waited from 1982 or thereabouts until this year for a good Winchester M1 Garand. And got it for under $3000 to boot!

Still waiting to see a 29-5 10 5/8" AFS revolver. In good nick or otherwise! Have only been looking for 20 years or so. Not sure if they ever made 'em at this point.

And a S&W 16-4 8 3/8" barreled .32 H&R magnum. Saw one about 15 years ago, but it had been scoped. Should have gotten it anyway.

I looked over a year to find a CS9.Finally not only found one,but it was a new one !
I also waited several months to find a new 3 inch model 63.
Both turned up at a local gun store and I just happened to be there at the right time.

15+ years for my Texas Ranger

I saw one in Lew Horton's shop but was too young to buy it.
When talking to the salesman he told me not to worry 10,000 were being produced.

When I turned 21, I started looking.
That is when I learned that while 10,000 were produced, only 50 had been the
Deluxe, Master Engraved model I had seen on display when I was younger.

10 years for a Winchester 94, but I had set a low price target and also did not want a junker. Finally it all came together. The fact that I had no earthly use for such a gun, other than "wanting" it, led me to wait for a good deal.

It took 5-6 years in the early 21st century ..... to replace the 2 1/2 inch and 4 inch Model 19s and 66s I'd sold or traded in the late 80s and early 90s as I transitioned to 3rd gen autos for my carry guns...........cus there were "lots" of 19s and 66s in the gunshops and I could always get more...... anytime!!!!!

I looked for various models or variants of pre-War High Standards for several years while collecting them and never could snag a Model C with Type 1-B takedown, but in S&Ws, my biggest challenge was finding an affordable K-frame in 32 caliber (after I stupidly sold my 16-4) so I eventually just had my stainless K-327 built. That project took almost a year from the time I purchased the parts used to convert my Model 66!

Froggie

PS I had about given up on finding an affordable Model 60-4 (3" bbl, adj sights) when one just fell in my lap... now if the same thing would happen with an original Model 631!

My problem is that I set a target to buy something, right now Model 36-6, but something always comes up in the meantime that I just HAVE to buy. I really wish I had patience.

I wanted a 6" 617 for several years.
Of course I found three within 6 months when they finally appeared.
Add to that I got them for the low side of market price so I was pleased.
what you want will show up in the condition you are looking for at a price you want to pay if you are patient and keep your eyes and ears open.
Let the local gun and pawn shops know what you are looking for and make sure they have your contact info.

I try not to become obsessed with any one model; I keep a list of stuff I'm after. For example, I wanted a 539 to round off the 39 set: pre-model, nickel, blue, stainless, and I wanted a steel frame too. I could have hopped on gunbroker and just bought one, or bought a nice example with no box for $700 at a gun show, but I waited....two years. Found one in box, like new for $525.
I've got the usual stuff on my list, like a 520, 627 n-d and an 845, but it will probably be a while. That gotta have it, and right NOW attitude will cost you.

In the mid-70's a buddy of mine let me shoot his M25-2. I knew that I had to have a M25. I started a 6 month plus search the next day and stopped in dozens of gun shops and pawn shops from Miami to Jacksonville without success. I mentioned my lack of success to the same guy that had let me shoot his M25 and he informed me that a gun shop less than 4 miles from my house has a new M25 in a presentation case for sale. I went to that shop and traded a M60 and a Walther PPKs for the M25 and a store credit of $80.
I have sold dozens of guns since that purchase but I still have that M25.

More recently, I have been searching for a M646 for over 3 years. I have never seen one at a gun show or gun shop. I offered cash for a 646 on this Forum's for sale listing but the seller never contacted me.

Have been looking for a model 53 since 1978,
still haven't found one here in Sweden.

At least one i could afford :(

I have been looking for a S & W Model 45...the .22 cal fixed sight k-frame, that I can afford.
Have been looking for 20+ years. I dream I will go into a pawn shop one day and find one mis-marked for $400...

A man has to have a dream.

Still looking for that elusive 6" Model 610 no dash, no I.L.
at the right price. I've found pretty much everything else I
wanted working at gun shows every weekend. Vigilance,
patience, and being observant pays off in the long run.

My problem is that I set a target to buy something, right now Model 36-6, but something always comes up in the meantime that I just HAVE to buy. I really wish I had patience.

^^This sounds a lot like me! In the S&W world I really want a Model 13 4" & a Model 58, however this pretty little 36 no dash shows up @ the LGS and there goes the budget for another 4 months...

I looked for 23 years for a Colt Series 70 Combat Government Model. Fairly scarce version of the Series 70, produced ca. 1984. I originally owned one, sold it to a friend in 1989, and realized in 1992 how much I missed the gun.

This was Colt's first venture into the "combat" pistol market. Not terribly advanced, but it's a fine shooting pistol. Previous owner added Commander hammer, and beaver-tail grip safety, but included original parts. I added the spalted maples.

Found another this spring. Won't make the same mistake this time.

I waited decades to find my norinco m14S.

How long do I wait to buy it once I find it? I waited till someone else purchased it. I was waiting too long to pull the trigger on it. Hesitated too long.

I'm missing one more s&w on my bucket list and found it. I'm hesitating again. 10/1 I'll buy it.

I did replace my colt government series 70 model 1911a1 in nickel I sold decades ago. I have one more I regret selling a python. I found one in nickel.

I'm looking for a like new 3913TSW going on five years now. The price is my problem. I picked up a new 4513TSW for $500. I don't think I'll find the same deal.

S&W Model 58

Took me 2-3 years to find my Model 58 here in South Florida. Found it in a Pawn Shop and it was my 50th Birthday present to myself. Certainly my favorite!

I saw a 686-3 National Match pictured on this forum about two years ago and immediately wanted one. But when just 500 of something was made 25 years previously, finding one that is in good condition and also for sale can take a while. I found this one on GunBroker about ten months ago.

The seller had no "Buy Now" price listed so I bid it up to $1,300 a couple of times but that wasn't high enough so it went through numerous five-day auctions. Then another bidder took it to $1,394 without hitting the seller's reserve. Twice I sent the seller an email asking what it would take to own the gun but received no replies so I stopped watching it for a while. On the last day of another auction several weeks later, I went to $1,400 and was greeted with the magic words "Reserve Met!" That buying process added about four months to my wait time.

I then decided I wanted an S&W 1911 in .38 Super but of course found they don't offer such an animal. However their archives showed that they in fact did make one in the Performance Center, a copy of Team S&W shooter Doug Koenig's competition gun. Two batches of them were produced; guns in the later batch were marked "PC1911-2" and were made in 1989, ironically the same year as the 686-3 National Match.

I didn't have to wait as long for that one as another member of this forum noticed my mention of wanting one and contacted me, so my wait that time was about a month.

I still would like a 5-1/2" Model 627-0 that I could afford and a Remington Model 700 or even a 7600 in .257 Roberts. But waiting for something to show up that you want but really don't need is fun in itself.
