Hawaiian Lawmakers Introduce Resolution Calling For 2A Repeal
Posted at 10:05 am on March 6, 2019 by Tom Knighton on bearingarms.com

Anti-gun activists have one big thorn in their side, and that’s the Second Amendment. Any measure they want to push is argued to be a violation of the Second Amendment.

More importantly, though, the Second Amendment is a bulwark against the anti-gun agenda’s endgame, namely civilian disarmament.

Now, it seems some Hawaiian lawmakers have introduced a resolution calling for a repeal of the Second Amendment.

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirtieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2019, the House of Representatives concurring, that the United States Congress is urged to propose and adopt a proposed amendment to the United States Constitution pursuant to article V of the United States Constitution to clarify the constitutional right to bear arms; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the United States Congress is requested to consider and discuss whether the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution should be repealed or amended to clarify that the right to bear arms is a collective, rather than individual, constitutional right; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the President Pro Tempore of the United States Senate, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Members of the Hawaii congressional delegation, and the Governor.

Just curious, not political from someone who's never been. What's the gun culture like in Hawaii? Ranges, hunting, shooting sports etc. private ownership hard? Active gun organizations?

I disagree with them, but this is the book answer for getting rid of guns.

Go through the Constitutionally prescribed method to repeal an amendment. If they have the numbers and can make it happen, then that is that.

We will be fighting anti-gun sleaze forever so get used to it and plan on preparing to derail them at each and every opportunity. I'll stop here because of the anti-political post rules on this forum.
In order to repeal the 2nd Amendment Congress would have to pass a resolution in both the House and Senate with a 2/3rds majority. Then 2/3rds of the States would have to ratify it. IMO: Fat chance!

It may be the "book answer," but it won't get rid of guns. Criminals and the government, but I repeat myself, will keep their guns. That being axiomatic, if the Second Amendment is repealed or reworded to remove the individual right of the people, which amounts to the same thing, I'm afraid there will be lots of terrible boating accidents where entire gun collections are lost somewhere offshore.

The important thing is that whatever they do to the Second Amendment, the right that it protects will still exist just as it pre-existed the Constitution itself.

I am wondering would the founding fathers that wrote the 2nd be shaking their heads if they were here today? If you draw a line but you don't defend it then the line means nothing. I think the 2nd was written so the citizens could defend that line. That line is the Constitution which is the law of the land. If we don't defend it then there is no law to stop those with money and power to rule us.

Show me someone that cannot defend what is his and I will show you a man that stands to lose all. I often wonder can our guns save us or are our guns obsolete to win the battle.

Thanks to a red flag law at least one man already had his gun pried from his cold dead hand and his guns confiscated. I expect more of these to come. Is the accusation of someone the rule of law now that negates my 2nd Amendment and Constitutional rights? It seems that way.
Is this Germany being played out again? This is scary to say the least.

Aloha Hawaii, Howdy Texas

Howdy,

Now you know why we left Hawaii.

The main problem is a lot of gun owners in Hawaii really don't
seem to care about their 2A Rights.

Many I have talked with don't join the Hawaii Rifle Assn. or contribute
to the Pro 2A PAC

They will spend $$$ on high end guns, but don't want to help.

They don't realize how hard the HRA people work on their behalf.

The Wife and I have met too many gun owners that don't want to help.
They blame every one else except themselves.
Many do NOT VOTE because "my one vote won't matter"

If ALL the Hawaii gun owners actually Voted their gun rights,
things would be very different in the legislature.

That is one of the main reasons We left Hawaii for Texas.
In Texas all our new friends are pro 2A AND we have enough land that
we can shoot from our back porch.

I think Hawaii wants to be its own nation again. I say they should be allowed to secede. And just so we don't have to change the flag, let California divide into South California and North California.

But let's look at the bright side, the mask is off. All these "common sense gun control" ideas can go away and the true agenda will be on full display.

I use opinions on gun ownership as a litmus test for who I vote for. Many people, including some gun owners, consider this juvenile and uninformed...I do not. What someone thinks about this issue, tells me a lot about where they come down on many other issues that concern me, so for me its a good guide. There's a reason the founders placed #2 in the #2 position...yea, its that important. In the news recently, Columbia is loosening its gun controls in an effort to combat rampant crime, and people in Venezuela are now regretting the day they gave up their firearms without a fight. Is this our future a generation or two from now? Make convincing at least one fence sitter on this issue to get off the fence your goal for the year...our future depends on it.

It is worth knowing that FIVE state senators signed a resolution to have the state of Hawaii request congress to discuss repealing the second amendment.

This doesn't stand to gain a lot of traction, but Hawaiians should contact their legislators and US senators.

Not big news that some would like to repeal the 2nd, so we don't all need to re-swear our "cold dead fingers" oath or spend a lot of time discussing this.
