Hazards of Concealed Carry in Hot, Humid Climate

Thanks,

Looking at the inside of your holster, it looks as if you've sweated enough to soak through the holster ? If that's the case, you might try to find something in Kydex, as it would shield your gun from the moisture coming from your body a bit better. Either that or consider an OWB design to help with that.

I don't see any pitting, just moisture beading up on the outside of the slide.

Thanks. If I could see I might be a good shot.:)

Anyway, yeah that a LOT of water on a gun carried in a holster on a dry day.

It's a tool, not a museum piece. If you're going to use it, it's going to show some wear. My top three or four carry pieces all look like an old cop's revolver, but they run like Swiss watches. Take care of them, and they'll take care of you . . .

I carry a 66 2.5", clipdrawed AIWB here in South Carolina and I sweat profusely. I was getting rust, so I coated the revolver with Flitz Gun Wax. At the end of the day I would simply wipe off any sweat on the revolver. That helped a lot, but I was still getting some rust in 1) the circular cut where the yoke/crane pivots the cylinder into and out of the frame, 2) under the grips and 3) on the screw that holds my grips on the revolver. Sweat would wick into those areas and cause rust.

I found that if I used Boeshield T-9 in those 3 areas every 2 to 3 weeks that my rust problems went away. So, Flitz Wax every couple of months and Boeshield T-9 in selected areas every 2 to 3 weeks.

T-9 is great stuff I spray my outboard motor engine with it and all the other parts. It leaves a coating that protects from the saltwater I fish in. Don

I live right here in Hotlanta. This is what a care-free carry gun looks like up here, it must be 20+ years old. Old school, no finger grooves, no accessory rail, Tennifer treatment.

Drink the KoolAid.

In Florida I pocket carry an alloy J-frame or Stainless steel NAA Black Widow in a cheap, soft holster. I have never gotten sweat on the holster or gun. My wallet rides in the other pocket and doesn't get soaked either.

Here in FL, I purchased an "Alien" with special backing that really takes care of the moisture (IWB). Might take a look at some of their options.
