hbwc seating depth

For me, it depends a lot on the 38 that I am shooting.

With my J frame snub nose a factory HBwc is very accurate but
when I load a BBwc from 628 up to 789fps, I get all kinds of different results.
The FULL loads were loaded to see if they might be a good SD loading
but the heavy recoil and results, lead me to think that the standard
JHP SD loads were the way to go, in my weapon.

In a M19 6" revolver, the BBwc from 699 to 826fps shoots great.
I had no reason to try a hot load in the 6" barrel.

The OAL in the manual means nothing unless you are using the same exact bullet they used and your brass is trimmed exactly as they did. I can't remember ever measuring the OAL of a revolver round.

HBWC bullets should be seated flush with the case mouth.
DEWC bullets should be seated to the crimp groove supplied by the manufacture. You can apply a light roll crimp into the groove.

Don't worry about the OAL.

why does the Lyman manual show 1.317 in. ( that must be a miss print in the manual ) for the wad cutter ?
If you look at the bullet it is one of the WC bullets with a bump of lead in the center of the bullet face. It is not flush all the way across and that would lengthen the OAL.

They are all wadcutters so I'm not sure what you mean? Hollow base, bevel base, double ended no matter, they are still wadcutters.
