I just renewed my drivers license in IL, and it has multiple area's of anti-counterfeiting. The new process was after they took the picture they issued me a Paper temp license and the new one was mailed to me about 2 weeks later. What they did during that couple weeks I don't know, but anything that makes it easier to travel I like. I had recently renewed my passport, (which only took 2 weeks) and it also has a chip in it.

Illinois is still not fully compliant.

Even with updates, Illinois IDs won't be fully federally compliant | abc7chicago.com

But I wouldn't get too worked up over this, they've been granting extensions and exemptions, and extending the implementation date. A real government operation. They keep pushing it out another year...

I also have issues using SSN for ID purposes. It's for collecting social security, not for ID. Sorry, just a pet peeve.

When I got my US SSN# in 1997, the attached paperwork stated that SSN#s ARE NOT a form of ID. I guess the banking system, the medical profession and other arms of .gov didn't get the memo.:(

The easiest if you have a passport is to apply for Global Entry. You are interviewed by CBP (not a low wage TSA "officer") and it is $20 more than the TSA Preclear. Gives you TSA Preclear plus it takes all of 2 minutes to go through the Global Entry Kiosks (quite distinct from the rapid entry ones) at most US International Airports and it also works in Oz. Have used it since the program started adn the GE Card meets all requirements. Dave_n

Im from NH and my DL is compliant but one look at the picture and they would just put me out of my misery.
