Heads up Washington/Georgia gun owners

I was just going to post that one as well. The anti's are taking the fight to the state level knowing a federal law is all but impossible. I'm guessing Bloomberg is behind this push.

If this happens in WA, I will REALLY consider moving out. I hope people contact their reps - I'm going to!

It'll never make it to the floor.

The real danger is the Initiative process. We saw how badly they misled and outright lied about I594 to get it through. I read an interesting post on another forum about a 594 supporter who suddenly realized that what he voted for was not at all what he thought it was. Typical, and sadly so.

While introducing that sort of bill might improve the odds of being reelected for a legislator from whatever district downtown Seattle is in, on the whole Washington's elected officials do not dare vote for that stuff. All the state level Democrats from my district are rated A or A+ by the NRA. Visitors from Seattle never believe this, but every one of the post cards that I've received from the NRA suggesting which way I vote at the state level endorsed a Democrat.

Do not forget that Bloomberg and his mayors' group combined their donations with millions from King County's software billionaires and spent eleven million promoting I-594. They plan to topple all the states like dominoes. The big news outlets recently reported that Bloomberg said he will spend 50 million of his own money toward that end.

Yeah, this doesn't have a chance of passing in WA. That said, I will provide comment to my legislators.

This sort of thing is done regularly so that a particular legislator can claim that they are "tough on guns" for their constituents.

But...this is how it's supposed to work -- legislative process and whatever court challenges are necessary. I don't slight anyone introducing legislation regardless of how misguided their intentions may be.

Time to invite your legislator to the range and share with them how fun shooting an AR is!

That's what they said about I594.

Yes. That seems to be the current modus operandi.

Yep. The problem with dealing with the strategy of throwing a lot of manure up on the wall is it's hard to keep up with all of it and some of it will stick.

I haven't tallied the pluses and the minuses but it seems as if the past few years the chipping away at the second amendment in various states and cities has outweighed any gains and it's an oblique example of the "rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer", i.e. further polarization. For example, pro-second amendment states like Kansas and Texas have enacted laws that seem to strengthen the second amendment whereas anti-second amendment states like California seem to have further chipped away, or have tried really hard to chip away, at the second amendment. It is interesting to watch this evolve. Demographics seems to be playing a significant role and based on a quick read of a demographic study of Washington I would opine that with time these types of anti-second amendment encroachments, that seem unlikely to pass now, would be more likely to pass in the future, but that's just an opinion and a guess.

Might be interesting to watch if they ever try confiscating firearms from some of those old Georgia boys!

I think it ain't a-gonna happen; at least in the near future. Remember, Georgia is the "Guns Everywhere" state.

The Georgia Speaker of the House says it ain't happening on his watch.

"In the wake of [the mass shootings in] Paris and San Bernadino, [I can't see] how someone believes that the solutions to some of these problems are to disarm law-abiding Georgians and Americans," the speaker said.

House Speaker David Ralston said Friday that legislation to ban assault weapons in Georgia will not become law on his watch.

"As long as I am speaker of this House, I will not use any of our valuable time taking away the constitutional rights of our citizens,"

[...] This [Georgia] isn't California. We were open carry (w/ a GWCL) 50 years before it was allowed in Texas.
Washington has had legal open carry with no license required since statehood and our constitution preempts counties and cities on gun laws.

The eleven million spent promoting I-594 nearly bought out prime time TV commercial time. I saw the same ad run three times in a row within the same prime time TV ad break on the best known and most widely watched channels. The ad was close to saying you could only vote against I-594 if you wanted your neighborhood patrolman to die. That's whats rolling your way.

Here in the North Georgia mountains the cops are our relatives, neighbors and friends! We all know most everyone else. We have no gangs or the trouble in Atlanta. We protect our police as much as they protect us. The law abiding people here would be the last people that they would disarm!

As I understand it, the Washington St atrocity was effected via that state's legislative initiative process. Georgia has no such instrument as the initiative: laws are introduced and passed only by the Georgia State Legislature.

I also understand that there was a civil disobedience/non-compliance rally at the Washington State Capital. Estimates ranged up to 3000 in attendance. I applaud that gesture. It was also reported that Washington State LE chose not to make arrests at the rally, where attendees openly violated the law by exchanging guns, and openly selling guns. Bravo!

If such a law were passed in Georgia, I believe Georgia gun owners would shut down traffic in downtown Atlanta. It would probably be the largest collection of rednecks ever seen outside a NASCAR Speedway. I believe there would easily be 10K to 20K people in attendance.

Something like what happened in Washington might be, as you say, "rolling our way," but if so, it will hit some terrible bumps in the road before it gets to its goal.

The progressives know they have to take the guns to initiate a socialist state and tyranny. They will not stop until they can have a government that will confiscate and lead us to a violent revolution. It is about control from size of sodas to distribution of your wealth. Anyone that disagrees will be an enemy of the State. We have seen this play before. It ends in bloodshed. Americans have armed up because they no longer trust Washington DC politicians to protect them. It is obvious where we are headed if we do not stop this insanity. This election is vital.

Currently, Georgia's Bill has a "snowballs chance". In another 10-20 years, that may change. The population trend is turning the State more towards Purple from Red.

Always stay vigilant. The anti guns crowd never go away or give up.

My Georgia friend who keeps up on state anti-gun legislative activities says he has learned that the bill is completely dead and buried, at least for this session of the Georgia legislature. But it will probably return in the future.
