Health and Fitness Thread

It's supposed to be kinda nasty today.
My wife and I decided to take a bit of a day off.
We're still gonna watch our diet and there's some stuff we can do at home.
We haven't had a day off in a while.

Tomorrow though, we're gonna go for a serious walk in the mountains. My wife calls them "Death Marches."

Those girls are truly awesome athletes! I agree that this thread will help with keeping goals in focus. I am am thinking of looking into some of the more strenuous shooting games just for fun exercise. If you have fun at it you are more likely to keep it up.

We're back.
The trail was 1/2 a mile in and ended in a sign that said, "No trespassing, private property.
That's okay, we have lotsa excellent trails right out here where we live. Tomorrow we're planning a nice long hike then some grilled pork when we get home. My wife's gonna fix some fresh broccoli with garlic butter sauce.

It's the cool part of the day in Houston, 82 degrees, 85% humidity, and a heat index of 90. That's why I like getting in my main exercise early in the day. The cool temps are part of it, but the quiet, low traffic levels, and watching mother nature go from dark to light is part of it too. The GPS in my phone has been hit and miss for a couple of weeks. I'll carry two phones again this morning. The last time I did that they both registered similar distances which jived with what I knew the course actually measured. I like to have an accurate distance measure in case I decide to go off my beaten paths. I probably will not get in 70 miles of walking for this week, but I'll be close. I've also spent more time on the elliptical machine this week. I actually mixed a good bit of running into the last two miles of my walk yesterday. I may not be loosing much weight, but I'm definitely loosing fat and getting stronger. Three weeks with no beer and the urge for peanut butter crackers is still greater than the urge for beer. I'm serious about loosing weight when peanut butter is more tempting to me than beer. It's time for me to get walking. Each of you have a great day.

Yesterday I had two hours of black belt training. I will be going for my second degree black belt in November if I survive the training .

Sent from the Telegraph Office
Second degree black belt at 72. Phenomenal!
I'd love to get some young punk thinking you'd be an easy mark on video.
Keep us updated.

It's Monday and three weeks into my renewed fight against the flab clinging to my body. Three weeks ago I weighed 201.8, last Monday I weighed 196.6, and this morning I weighed 195.6.

It was a hard fought week and I only lost one pound, but I've lost an average of over 2 pounds per week for three weeks. I'm keeping up an exercise routine and diet which will lead to weight loss, the ups and downs of my body's changes just do not happen in a linear fashion. I'll keep doing what I've been doing.

Time for me to get ready for my morning walk. I'll try to get in 7 miles this morning, then I'll walk to Trader Joe's for Romaine lettuce and tack on about three more miles. My total walking distance last week was a bit over 66 miles. Each of you have a great day!

Got my weekend mowing in but it was tough as the feels like temps were over 100+. Blood sugar hanging in there as well. Need to find more time to hike but stay on my feet nine or ten hours a day with plenty of walking but no long distance walking. Hope everyone has a good day!

the American Heart association recommends 10K steps a day for a healthy heart. I've been doing that. But lately I've added more steps and for 2 weeks in a row I've done over 107K steps in each 7 day period.

It's another warm morning and I'm prepping for my walk. I've been sneaking in a bit of running (it's running for me) during the last two miles of my walk. According to an app, yesterday I ran 1.3 miles in 16 minutes. It was just part of the 6.75 mile walk to me. I'm happy to be able to ramp up the intensity of my workout without hurting myself. All told yesterday I racked up 11.3 miles, and a bit of gym time. My goal for toady is 10 miles, and I'm going to start in five minutes with a seven mile walk, with a bit of running at the end. Have a great day!
