Enjoy!
When I'm on vacation, I enjoy the fitness level I've worked on the whole rest of the year.
In fact, that's one of the reasons I watch my diet and exercise, so I can have more fun.

Don't know what it is, whether it's the heat, humidity or a combination of both but the bugs seem really "bitey" lately.
So, while we were out I picked up a "Bug Band."

On my next hike, I'll probably try it looped around the top of my boot. If that doesn't help, I'll wear it on my wrist.
I don't like bug spray, so I'm hoping this is a reasonable alternative.

It's a good thing that I got in 12.9 miles of walking yesterday because the rains have started here in Houston and are predicated to last most of the week. Hopefully there will be breaks for a couple of hours at a time which will allow me to get in a bit of walking. I needed a rest day, and it looks like one is being forced on me today. I'll sneak over to my little community gym when they open around 7:00. The machines are not as much fun as being outside, but the better condition I get into the more energy I seem to need to work off. Maine would be better than here today.:(

We looked at the weather report for today. They're predicting thunderstorms again.
We've been getting stormed on for the last week or so. Getting kinda tired of coming home soaking wet.
So, today we decided to take an off day. Get some stuff done at home.
Originally we were planning on a nice long bike trip.

rain this morning. But health and fitness doesn't stop for the weather. My 5K was my fastest this year and I also had my fastest single Mile time. Soon I'll be back to under 30 Minute 5K's again. Before a knee injury and time off they were always under 30.

Reminds me of a flea collar....

The rains let up in my area yesterday, so I took the opportunity and took a 5.6 mile fast paced walk, and later did another 3 mile round trip walk to Trader Joe's for fresh produce. The rains are all around today, and I'll see how things go.

It's Monday and the start of week five of my renewed diet program. My official first thing in the morning weigh in was 194.0 pounds. Twenty-eight days ago I weighed 201.8 pounds. A grand total of 7.8 pounds lost in four weeks, right at two pounds a week. I had hoped to loose more than two pounds a week, but I'm convinced that the weight I'm loosing is fat not muscle.

I have been cheating a bit on my 1,600 calories per day. It is probably working out to about 1,600 to 1,700 per day. On three occasions I had social functions to attend and probably consumed 2,000 calories on those days.

Over the last 28 days I have logged 290 miles of walking, plus regular short workouts on a resistance weight machine, and a Precor elliptical training machine. My strength on those workouts is what convinces me that I'm loosing fat not muscle.

It's time for me to finish my morning routine and get walking, if the weather allows. Each of you have a great day!

Today was weigh in day. Scale say's 170 pounds again. Hope it sticks this time.
Had a nice hike, brought my camera with me and should have it uploaded in the next day or two.

You need a plan for maintaining your ideal weight just like you had for losing the big pounds.

My current goal is 190 pounds, but that goal only means I get to add beer back into my diet. My ideal weight with my current muscle mass is probably somewhere between 185 to 190 pounds. It may be that I need to go as low as 182. It looks like it's going to take me six weeks to go from 202 to 190. Once at 190 I'll dial back the exercise program a bit, and allow my daily caloric intake to rise, with the plan of losing another few pounds over the following five or six weeks.

After that I'll continue to watch my diet and exercise and allow my weight to fluctuate in a three to five pound range. When my weight goes to the upper end of the range the calories consumed will go down and the exercise will go up.

No matter what people say, it is harder to lose weight than to keep it off. The thing is that most people quit trying after they lose weight. I think what they are trying to say is that it is harder to care and do something about your weight for the rest of your life than it is to try very hard for a few months, achieve a short term goal, celebrate, and forget about why you had to diet in the first place.

Got in a bit over nine miles of walking and 45 minutes in the gym today. If the TV weather guys are right this evening I will not get in any outdoor walking tomorrow. We'll see.

Didn't get my second hike with my wife today.
A big ol' thunder storm came rumbling through the mountains shortly after she got home.
Oh well, we'll be heading on out to the Y tomorrow. Spin class and weight machines.

I agree it is harder to get the weight off than to keep it off.
As I understand it though, it's four times easier to gain weight than to get it back off.

I am finding it easier to keep my calories down than it is to keep my blood sugar in the range I want but I am figuring it out. I only take a minimum dose of medicine but want to be able to not take any Meds for blood sugar control. Can not prove it but I am pretty sure I am seeing an improvement in my vision. Once I feel like I have it a little more stable I will go back to the eye Doc for an exam and maybe cataract surgery.
