Okay, if you got here, what the link provides is an opportunity to hear my acquaintance Dr. Mathilde Egyed, an attorney in Budapest, sing "Silent Night" in Hungarian. The Christmas interiors are of her parents' home. I think Mathilde made some of those centerpieces and the like. She sent me a pic of one last year, just completed.

Although she practices law for a living, she has a remarkable voice, and sings in some of her videos. She has also auditioned to dub Disney movies for audiences in her country.

I think you'll find this to be a particularly soothing enhancement to your own Christmas evening. :)

Please comment: I'm curious to have your reaction. Is she as good as I think, or am I just being loyal to a friend? Being as objective as I can, I think she's quite good! And the decor in their home is very Christmas-y.

That was great! What a beautiful voice done in a language that isn't always musical to my ears.I mean that with the highest of compliments.
Her house looks like a place I'd love to be on Christmas.

Thanks for sharing.

T-Star: I listened. She does have a beautiful voice and perfect pitch. Does she sing in English? I don't understand a word of the Hungarian language, but it made no difference whatsoever. I enjoyed every note! ........... Big Cholla

Cholla Grande-

I'll e-mail her, and see if she has any English videos. I think she can sing some memorized songs in English, but her written English, although understandable, is imperfect. I once had to help her write a fan fiction in English. It took a lot of re-writing. However, that went beyond basic "communication English." Her firm sent her to an International Law Symposium in Vienna about a year ago, and Mathilde coped okay. (The universal language there was English.)

That said, on the board where we met, the best English other than mine is from a Czech and an Austrian, with a Norwegian and a Georgian (living now in Belgium) also being very good, indeed. The Georgian and the Czech are so skilled that they use US slang so well that you'd never realize that they aren't US citizens!

This is embarrassing mainly because we have five Americans and a Canadian on that board whose spelling and grammar skills are eclipsed by the ones mentioned. And one of the Americans is a writer, although her romances have not yet found a publisher.

I'll also ask my Austrian friend who visited here briefly a few years ago if she has any songs recorded. The one of her recital at a school was deleted eventually by the institution. I think she sent it to me on a CD, but I don't think she has otherwise sung Online. I'll ask.

Mathilde does have some other videos, but she sings in Hungarian in Disney animated movies.

Thanks for asking. I'll e-mail both ladies and post here if they have Online music in English. I know that the Austrian speaks perfect English. She was mistaken for an American while in Canada a couple of years ago. Clearly, she has outpaced Schwarzenegger in vocal skills, at least as regards her accent...:D

Magyar is a bit rough on these old ears due to it bringing back some ancient memories, but the voice is pure and the range is good.

I would love to hear her sing in English, any of the Romance languages, or songs originally written in Magyar instead of translated into it.
Translations work better for prose than songs and poetry. To me, it seems like either the rhythm or the meaning gets lost in the latter two.

Many moons ago, while living in Paris, I had a Hungarian girlfriend who sometimes spoke Magyar with her friends, so I've heard the language, but was never familiar enough, even back then, to recognize any of the words in the song. Oddly enough, because of her and her friends, my French acquired a German accent.

Thank you, gentlemen. :) I'll make sure that she sees this topic.

I imagine that it will inspire her. She is a bit shy and underestimates her talent, I think.
