Hellcat, P365 and the Shield

Until 3-4 years ago, I only carried Full Size service type revolvers or semi-autos (4" min. barrel length). The LGS/indoor range had a Shield 9mm in the rental case and they let me try it for free. I was never a sub compact anything guy until then. The Shield felt good, and shot well. It changed my mind about owning/carrying a sub compact handgun. I'm not looking for anything else, especially smaller in size. Just my opinion, it's great to have so many choices; different strokes for different folks :-)

I just picked up my 365sas today. Haven't had a change to shoot it but plan to get there within the next day or so. I've shot the 365 and liked it so I'm pretty stoked about the sas

Will be watching for a review on the 365/SAS -saw one today and not sure if the sights are to my liking.

I'm staying out of the micro double stack market for awhile to see what happens. The 365 seems pretty great, but I'm sure Sig is going to iron out a few mor hiccups. Not a Springfield fan, company wise, or product wise, so will probably stay clear of the Hellcat. If the 15 rounders for the 43x/48 end up being solid, it may be on the table. I imagine we will see an lc9 and shield variant close to this style in the next year or so as well. Until all pieces are positioned on the board I will merrily carry on with my model 60 and gen 1 Shield.

You might laugh, but the small double stack that fits my hand best lately is the SCCY CPX-2.

When it comes to single stacks, I tried to like the LC9s but it just doesn't work with my hands. I like the grip on the CW9 best but the PPS M2 has the best trigger, IMHO.

Wake me up when one of these things comes with a hammer. I will never, ever carry a striker fired pistol.

look at the new offering from Naroh, The N1. it's hammer fired, but not second strike capable. the hammer is enclosed and pre-cocked partially. only 7+1, but they are working on extended mag. 16 1/2 oz, 6.1" long and < .9" slide width. i have one on the way from Bud's for $365. it will accept sights for the Glock 43.

The hellcat is THICKER and WIDER than either the shield or the P365...

Searching for the "Unicorn," eh? Hmmm.
They all weigh about the same, they're all close enough to the same size, and are all fine weapons, I'm sure. Want more capacity? Go for it.
I'll stick with my Shield 2.0 for IWB if I feel like "going big" and my little LCP for pocket carry in most situations. I shoot them both just fine, they are ultra reliable, and I'm not walking around expecting a prolonged shootout. 7 rounds is actually more than enough for my environment, lifestyle, and SD needs.

The 365 has been around long enough to consider, imo, but the Hellcat is an unknown and will be for at least a year or two. As always, YMMV.

Gave up on three different Shield 9's...couldn't get over the horrible trigger, gave up on several Airweights-637,642, 638-finish peeled on every one of them(never cleaned with ANY solvent) . I am now a KAHR CM9 owner and shooter--6+1 rounds always works,SUPER trigger right out of the box, no modifications, very small very flat, VERY accurate. Very happy.

I did it today.

Went to the gun show, sold my Shield and bought a new P365 ($500 out the door). Figure I'll carry it with the supplied 10 round magazine, and get a 15 for the reload to carry in a pocket.

So now in the same size package, I'm carrying 26 Rounds where I had 16 with the Shield.

I also checked out the Hellcat ($650 total). It's a bit wider and chunkier than P365, and only carries one more round I tthink.even for the same price I'd get the P365.

Since I live in a restricted state and can only carry 10 round mags the Hellcat is out.

Cost difference between the Shield and P365 keeps me in a Shield.

2 - 8 round mags with magguts plus 2 extensions, gives me 21 rounds. All less than $350 combined.

I have the 365 with a 12 rd. mag. Perfect size for a guy with small hands. I felt the 10 rd. was not enough grip for me even with smaller hands....

The 12 round mag for me is the sweet spot for P365 mags. Almost as good is the 10 rounder with a Pearce Grip mag extension that allows me a full three fingered grip. I bought a 15 rounder just because. For me, it is a very handy way to carry 15 extra rounds in the console of my vehicles when travelling. Doesn't take up much room and no fumbling out of the box, etc.

The britches I wear mostly (same brand of Shorts too) allow for easy pocket carry, which is working much better for me these days due to old age and serious lower back issues that has made belt carry in my favorite spot to painful to tolerate. Don't like pocket carry as much as IWB or OWB belt carry, but I intend to carry so pocket carry is the best choice for me at this point in time. The ten round mag with the flat base is the best for pocket carry, with a twelve rounder in my belt carry mag pouch.

I've got three Sheilds, one 9MM and two .45 ACP. I love 'em, and that's what I was carrying when I gave up belt carry. Still got 'em though. I had to be shown before I accepted the change to P365 EDC, but I'm a believer now and I have two of them, one which I do most of my shooting at the range with and the other tried and tested for reliability and is my EDC. This is what works for me. Y'all gotta figure out what works best for yourselves!

When I retired I started carrying a Sigma 9, but later shot & purchased a SCCY 9mm, holds 10 rounds in a double stack mag. Then my wife was wanting to conceal carry, she didn't like the SCCY, we tried many different handguns, which I shot along side her. She ended up with a Glock 43, but I found I was more accurate with a Shield 9mm, so I purchased one ad started carrying it. The Shield capacity is less, but accuracy counts.
I have not tried the new P365, but it doesn't look much different than the SCCY. I will try one out.

I wasn't even thinking about a 365. I have a Glock 26 that u shoot well. Then they came out with the SAS. Got me interested. Then came the Hellcat. Work an RMR. Hmmm. Damn. Looks like I'm gonna be spending some money on something.

Congrats on the 365. I carry mine in a Vedder Light Tuck holster.

I handled the P365 SAS. I think I could adapt to the sight, but I cannot stand the porting.

I chose the 365 TacPac. I got a no-safety, with a plastic holster, a 10-rd and THREE 12-rd mags. Plus the free box of FMJ and a range pass, for $529 and tax. Really good deal, I think. And I love the gun!
