I just found out about this Forum a few days ago in a reference on another forum. Since I own two S&W pistols I thought it was about time to join. It is probably a very good place to learn more about S&W equipment. I don't think I am through buying it!

I have been writing on other gun forums under the name "Ala Tom" partly because I was not sure I was really going to be a member of the "gun community." But now I have an Alabama Pistol Permit (essentially a CCW permit). I had owned several guns 45-48 years ago as a college student. But shortly after I became gainfully employed, became a parent and moved to an area where using guns for any reason was frowned against. (Curiously that was Massachusetts. Not far from S&W headquarters!) I spent 30 years as a Government employee and aerospace engineer, finishing up working for NASA in Alabama.

Now I am retired and the kids are grown and off on their own. The wife and I are doing okay and I try to do as little meaningful work as possible. I had several guns that had been packed away for years that would not do me much good if some gang idiots tried to bust the door down and steal my stuff or hurt the wife. So I educated myself on current handguns. My guns had been bought to feed my curiosity in the mechanics of various firearms. I was able to sell them for decent prices. My reading on the gun forums showed me that the S&W M&P series was the best combination of capability and reliability at present. A study of current handgun ballistics showed the .40S&W was the best round for general home defense. I also learned that I needed a gun shooting cheaper ammo for practice. I bought a S&W 22A. I was lucky to have a local gun range where I could rent each of these. I read the manual for each downloaded from the internet the night before shooting them. That worked out fine. Now I have my own new versions of each and have begun getting my shooting skills back up near what is an acceptable level to me.

Greetings

Welcome Tom,
This forum is a really good source of info on just about anything concerning Smith & Wesson products. I don't get a chance to ask many questions about S&W's, since mine all perform better than I could hope for, like, no problems. Before I retired I worked for a military contractor as a welder. You mechanical engineers impress the heck out of me. Had a couple of friends in that field. Good luck with your shooting and will look forward to you sharing any knowledge you have about these fine weapons.
Peace,
Gordon.............Missouri Ozarks.
