Greetings from CT! I've read WAY too much here, and on many many other sites since I bought my first hand gun, a revolver, at a LGS in January. (A gently used S&W model 14-3). Love it. So accurate and fun to shoot. And a true classic. After thinking I'd never buy a semi-auto (too complicated?) I bought a used Kahr PM9 shortly after watching a video by Hickok45 last month. It kicks a bit, and is way too soon in my shooting career for my skills. I need a lot of practice before I get that one figured out.

So, last week I bought a used M&P9 on the advice of another LGS that has a nice range facility and retail store. I was offered to shoot it and then decide, so I did. From the moment I held it, I liked it. After shooting it, I love it.

Now to my question: What is all the attention to "no dimple" "one dimple" and "two dimples" on the barrel all about? I field stripped mine and it has none. My SKU on the box tells me it's from 11/2012. A lot of talk/discussion about 9mm barrel accuracy issues....

I am by no means in any position to talk about accuracy and groupings at 21 feet, etc. But I am learning how to shoot a really sweet firearm one round at a time. And thus far, after 200 rounds through it, I'm pretty much all over the place. But I know that's 100% me.

Any advice would be appreciated. My goal is to learn from those with lots of experience. I'm finding that I read way too much into things, and then second guess when I probably should not. (i.e. no dimple!---is that bad!??)

Thanks, and Best regards.

Howdy from South Carolina, and welcome to the forum.

Don't know about any dimples, but there certainly is a tremendous amount to learn with this hobby.

Welcome from Wisconsin!

I think S&W changed the twist rate of the rifling on their 9 MM pistols not too long ago but I'm sure someone will come along & explain just what the dimples mean. I shoot M&P .40 cal & as far as I know the rifling is the same as the original ones were. If your gun shoots well for you I wouldn't worry about it, though.

Welcome from another CT person! Where about in CT are you? I'm in pretty much the center of the state.

Welcome from Texas Phishfindr. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

If you not yet do so, head over the M&P sub-section. Post your question there. More traffic and good folks to answer.
