Hi everyone,
My Dad passed in January and I am trying to make sense of his vast collection.
I have a five shot model 36 that I think is a No Dash model and my Uncle (mom's side) wants to buy it. I can not seem to find a simple database of serials to date it so, I turn to you.
I am attaching pics. I am trying to find a year of manufacturer and suggestions on fair asking price.
Thanks.

Between '66 and 68' IMO

Diamond magnas ended in 68', flat latch ended in 66' 1962 starts the 295000 range and 1969 ends at 786544.

I'm sure someone else has more info than me.

To get an accurate value we'd need to know if you have the original box/papers that came with it, etc.

Welcome to the Forum from Mechanicsville, Virginia!

I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

Seeing as we are actually "neighbors" (or at least within a very few miles of each other!), I can assist you with identifying and further valuation of your gun if you wish, on a face-to-face basis.

Below pics are one of my current collection, a Model 36 no dash, 1965 with the original box, documentation, vapor paper and everything the gun came with. I have this valued at $550 for insurance purposes, however I do not update as often as I should so value may be off. In fact, the "Bible" of everything Smith & Wesson, the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 4th Edition, page 243 shows ANIB (As New In Box) at $650, Excellent at $525, and Very Good at $450, so there you have a range if you are intending on selling it.

Your gun appears to be in at least excellent condition. Remember, if you are going to shoot it, that these guns were not rated for 38 Special "+ P" (higher pressure) ammo.

In any event let us know if we can help in anyway. If you stick around here you will find the most friendly, knowledgeable bunch of folks you ever met.
