I'm new(ish) to this site, but not to S&W firearms. First shotgun I ever owned was an Eastfield Model 916, in about 1975. Many a bird dropped as a result of that 12 gauge. I bought my first S&W handgun in 1979, a Highway Patrolman 6". Soon after a M29 with 8 3/8", which I sent to the factory to swith to a 6 1/2" This was in '80, I believe. I bagged 5 deer with that weapon, all on the move. Loads of other critters met their end from that .44. In '80, I think, I got a 25-5 in 6". Beautuful weapon--wish I still had it! I also wish I'd kept the M27 8 3/8" I got around that time. At one point I owned a nickel 29, and a fairly new to the nation 629. Both gone. As is the M49 .38 snubbie I had about 25 years ago. No problems with any, just let 'em go. I ALSO wish I'd held onto the 2 1/2" M66 I had then. (I've fired .454s, but nothing recoiled like that 66 with heavy .357s in it!)
Still have that 1st M29, and it shoots as well as ever after about 30-odd years. I found out one thing fast about those guns: you'd better learn how to reload if you want to get much practice in. I did that, too.
I really enjoy this site--visit it almost every day. I enjoy to read about various S&Ws I've never fired, tho' I've obviously fired my fair share. Keep up the good work and you'll have me as a constant reader!
