Howdy! New to revolvers and S&W, but just picked up my 6" 686+ today (after a 58 day wait) and look forward to hitting the range!

Welcome from Baltimore, Md. I feel your pain. Waited 4 weeks for my Beretta Nano. And now I'm waiting for approval for a private sale on a S&W 28 I bought from a co-worker. Was told the wait could be 8 - 10 weeks. Maryland requires a MD state police back ground check and registation of every handgun transaction, even among family. Have fun and enjoy your new revolver.

Hello and welcome from Oklahoma. A 58 day wait? The more stuff I hear like that, the more I love Oklahoma.

I feel your pain as I live in the People's Republic of New Jersey. Not sure about your process but here we need an FID card, a permit to purchase a pistol (P2P), can only buy one gun a month (OGAM) and have to go through "Instant" nics which now take about 12-15 days. Our law states that FID and P2P's must be issued within 30 days, but in many parts of the state are now taking 6 to 9 months. P2P's are only valid for 90 days, but the local authority at their discretion can extend them for another 90 days. There are rumors that you can get a CCW as a private person, but only 1,600 have been issued in the entire state.

That said due to OGAM I have to wait 5 more days to file my nics and then in about two weeks from that I can pick up my new S&W686+ with 4" barrel.

Thanks. Looks like an amazing amount of information and experience here, particularly for collectors. I haven't had much interest in collecting older pieces, but after reading some of these threads, I may just start!

Gee, I thought 3 days was a long time. Welcome from FL

I wouldn't have the patience that you guys have. I'm just used to going into a store, seeing a firearm that I like (at a price I can afford:D) and walking out with it.

Luckily, I received "collector" status in MD so I can buy more than one at a time. Otherwise, it's a 30 day wait between purchases - so add that to the 60 days that the background checks are taking and you could realistically only expect to buy 3-4 guns a year. Can't wait until we add fingerprinting and licensing in the mix

Anyway, another topic for another day. I appreciate the welcome!

Welcome from Texas Snallygaster. Great forum for all things S&W, have fun, learn lots, share what you know.

Sorrry to hear of your waiting time there. Governments should believe in liberty.
