Why am I here ? Gunsmithing advice mostly. Turns out there are no real gunsmiths within 100 miles of me. I mean the kind that can do actual machining, barrel replacement, ect. So it looks like I have to do it all by myself.

I have a 629-8 with a barrel I can't stand to look at. Found a 6 inch on EBay and need to replace it. Dangerous work for sure.

But...the GUN GODS smiled upon me and presented me with an older 10-5 with all the older features I love for only $350 cash. She has two frozen screws, so I need to get decent tools to fix her and any others.

Then...what if the new 629 barrel is too long. More specialized tools. I am a retired electronics guy, so all this will be new, but I do have attention to detail.

The rest I will hope and pray for you all's guidance on.:)

I'll second the welcome and the good luck wishes.

There are guys on here that can do it all, I'm not one of them.

Welcome from Cedar Park Texas.

Try some drops of ATF on those frozen screws or take the grips off and soak the whole revolver in a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone for about a week.
Then give it another bath in #1 kerosene for a few days once you have the screw issue fixed.
If a previous owner used red loctite or JB Weld on the screws you'll have a tough time but it can be done.
