I have been a member here for awhile, but haven't posted much. I basically didn't currently own a Smith and Wesson until 2 years ago. Then I acquired a Fairly nice model 38-1 3" for my Wife. I then inherited my Dad's 2 duty guns. A 5" 38-44 Heavy Duty (The first gun I ever qualified with), and his clamshell holster. Serial number S67xxx. I also received the firearm he carried as a Detective. This is a 3" K-38 (pre model 15). This firearm started life as a 6", but somewhere along the line it was cut to 3" and re-crowned. I call it the & Wesson as the Smith was cut off. The Serial number is K48xxx. Both of these firearms were carried on a daily basis over a 27 year career. I then inherited 2 firearms (I should actually say my Wife inherited) from my Father-in-law. One is a model 27-2 3 1/2" Serial number N200xxx. This was a duty gun. The other is a model 66 no dash 4". Serial number 9K25xxx. This has the original box, tools, and paperwork including the bill of sale dated 1-17-77 and showing the price paid as $163.29. This gun was not carried much as my Father-in-law was a Sheriff's Posse member and did mostly search and rescue. My go to carry firearm is a 3 1/8" Ruger SP-101. I will be looking for a good holster and set of grips for the old & Wesson so I can carry it also. Somewhere along the line, I sold or traded my K-38 Masterpiece 6", Model 39 no dash and Model 19 4", that I carried as duty Firearms, and went to a 1911 Gold Cup. After 8 years as a LEO, I became a Firefighter/EMT, and eventually retired 19 years ago.

Welcome from Texas. I think Nampa is where Elmer Keith's wife was from? I'll have to check his autobiography!
I don't know about Elmer's Wife. I did work for a gun store in Meridian, Idaho that had a bunch of Elmer Keith's trophies on display. Some of them and a looped video are now part of the local Cabela's. He was an amazing man.
