Help choosing a 6906

Can't leave us hanging like that after all these people gave you advice on where to look! Where did you find it?

Well I had started with Gun Broker, then I talked to Mark at Summit and he told me he was out and couldn't give me an idea of when he would get more in. I thought about the other places people linked me to but for the price to buy sight unseen was a bit much so back to Gun Broker.

I had spotted about 3 of them on Gun Broker, just so happens one of them was for sale by a member of this board. He PM'ed me a link to his GB sale and we managed to work out a deal.

I know the other two I was looking at on GB are still there one is square the other is round. I would say they are probably close to 85% from what I can tell.

Also there was another member here who sent me a pic of one he had for sale. If I had the money I would have been all over it. It looked just like it did the day it left S&W. Alas to keep the peace in my castle I use a slush fund for my gun purchases and it is getting a bit light...funny how that works the lighter the fund gets the heavier the safe gets haha.

Sounds great, this is one I am looking for as well. How about posting a picture if you get time, and when you get it:)?

Function question:

I realize the safety is more like a de-cock than a traditional safety. That said from what I have read if you rack the slide with the safety off, the hammer will stay cocked in essence leaving the gun cocked and unlocked. If you rack the slide with the safety on then the hammer will fall leaving the gun uncocked and unlocked. I am assuming that from the uncocked and unlocked position if you put the safety ON you now have a gun that is uncocked and locked.

Is it safe to carry the gun cocked and unlocked?

Since the only way to have the safety on is to have the hammer uncocked is there any real point to putting the safety on?

Well I recieved my 6906 and have to admit I am glad I continued seeking one out to buy. I love it. Great shooter, not really that much bigger than my G26 in size or weight.

Now I am trying to find a holster for it. Lately I have been throwing the G26 into a Don Hume 715 and it works great and is alot easier to toss it on than my other holsters.

I figured I would try a DOn Hume 715 for the 6906 but they do not make one for the 6906. They do however make one for the 3913 Lady Smith, CS 40, CS 9, and 4516. WHich one do you guys think the 6906 would fit best in?

Oh sorry no pics yet have been out of town and haven't had time for hardly anything, luck I acctually got to go shoot it to be honest.

I am not familiar with the Hume holster you mention but probably a 3913 holster will fit your 6906. The CS series are shorter guns overall and I think your 6906 might be just a shade longer in the barrel and slide - maybe 1/4" or so. I am not sure about that. Why don't you call Hume and ask?

As to carrying your gun with the safety on or off, as I understand it, the gun can be safely carried either way. I generally use the safety when I carry the gun, but a lot of people think it foolhardy. I am used to 1911 safeties and most people are concerned about the down vs. up difference. Maybe I should be too... ? Your money, your choice.

The safety on the 3900/6900 guns does not lock the gun, as in a 1911, but it does render operation of the trigger impossible.

Glad you found what you wanted. 6900s are nice little guns, aren't they? :)

Thanks for the reply and info.

I was thinking the 3913 at first but it is listed as a "Lady SMith". The 3913 Lady Smith had a different profile than the standard 3913 in the dust cover area under the barrel.

So it seems to me the 3913 LS holster would be a no go for the 6906. I have carried the 6906 in a DH 715 made for the G19/23/33 series and it is pretty good fit but lacks a bit of retention.

For refrence this is a DH 715

Thanks for the heads up on the safety. I knew what it would and would not do but I was not sure if for example the safety was off and something was to hit the hammer would the hammer be able to contact the firing pin. Since it won't fire I see no need to have the safety on .

I e-mailed Don Hume about the holster and their word is the holsters are designed for the specific model and while others may fit they have no info on what gun would work with what holster other than what they are listed as.

I was hoping maybe someone owned both a 6906 and 4516 that could give me some size comparison between the two.

I have both a 3913, 6906 with a square trigger guard and a 6904 with a round trigger guard. The slide on all are exactly the same size. I'm not certain if they are interchangeable but they definitely share some of the same parts. The only real difference in size between the 3919 and 6906/6904 is the width of the frame. I currently use a Desantis ProStealth IWB which works fits both. Although I don't recommend this particular holster.
