Hey everybody, glad to be joining the S&W community here. I'm new to the forum but not firearms or S&W. I am, however, a new owner of an S&W revolver (pic attached). The 686 plus Deluxe. Couldn't be more excited (but I'm still waiting out my 10-day hold period here in California). picking up the new baby on Monday. I'm having trouble finding a leather holster for the 3" barrel. I should specify, I'm pretty sure I want the thumb-break. Any pointers? Thanks all.

Welcome to the forum! I concur with the Lobo Holster recommendation. Bianchi and Triple K also make holsters for that gun. I have the same firearm, and had a custom pancake made by Warbird leather out of AZ, however, I don’t have the thumb break. L frame holsters are out there, it’s just a matter of your personal taste

Thank you all for your help and input. Those holsters you recommended are nice! I was able to track down a couple of mass-produced leather holsters to try (before I saw some of these here). One is a Desantis with thumb break, the other is a pancake style by Azula. On some manufacturers' websites the 3" barrel is just not there. Such as Bianchi and even Galco didn't seem to have the OWB I was looking for. I did find some other really nice custom holster makers in addition to the ones you've suggested, but those will have to wait for a special holiday :)

No thumbreak but I do not prefer them. Check out Matt Whitefield. Very stiff leather love the lip he molds in which makes for easy reholstering. Retention is fantastic. I have one for my 3" 586/686+ and my Kimber K6s.

I LOVE the look of that leather, the grain looks amazing. Will check them out. Yeah for the thumb-break, I'm not sure how I'll like living with it on a daily basis but in theory I like it for retention during active movement. Also need it for the CCW qualification at the sheriff's department. One of the two I have on order is without thumb break. We'll see. But dang, those holsters of yours are gorgeous.
