I work for a city in the purchasing department, and I purchase ammo for our police when they need it. This is done usually by going through a state contract with various distributors. Our SWAT snipers use ONLY Remington Match .223. Our distributor for that is Bailey's in Houston. It is taking a long time to get our order filled and I am trying to find another source to get some to hold us until our order comes in. This isn't Bailey's fault, it's just they have to wait on Remington to make more and it's not scheduled until late January or so. I want to know if any of you LEO folks may know of another source for Remington ammo, that can be reasonably priced for a local government. Retail for this stuff, online is around 26-30 bucks a box, and on our state contract, we get it for less than 10. I know I'll probably pay a god bit more, but I can't see paying retail prices for LE. Waiting for ammo is not unusual, especially .223.

Do you have the option to use other brands?

Like Federal , Winchester , Black Hills , Prvi Partizan , Sellier & Bellot , or Fiocchi?

I think Federal and Black Hills have their own police order/sales dept.

My guess would be that if any distributor has any that they will channel it into commercial sales at the current time. As of this morning generic 223 seemed to be about a dollar a round if available at all.

I suspect shortly that neither love nor money will get any commercially.

Is it possible that another department could sell or transfer you some?

Go directly to Remington and I'm sure they can find some LE dealers somewhere near you that you can try.

At one time, FLETC (Federal Law Enforcement Training Center) in Glynco GA had an IDIQ (indefinite delivery indefinite quantity) purchase contract for ammunition with all manufacturers which was accessible to all law enforcement agencies. That may no longer be the case, but you may wish to contact them to find out details. Of course the using agency must pay for the ammunition, not FLETC.
