Hi everyone. I'm looking for help identifying and dating this revolver bearing serial number 530471, no letter prefix. I think it's a Model 36, but I am a newbie. Thanks for the help.

Yep, that would be a M36 Chief's Special, made in the mid '60s.
If you open the cylinder the model number is in the yoke.
Looks like a nice one.

Thanks. An yway to get an exact manufacture date? I need to know if it is a curio or relic

I'm thinking maybe 1967. Can you show us the left side so we can see the cylinder release? A change to that part was made in 1966.
This is a nice square butt Model 36 in any case!

Going by the likely ship date of mid-1967, that gun is about 24 to 27 months shy of C&R status. Sorry.

I think you should see the stamp MOD36 on the frame surface that is visible when the yoke is open.

Based on the serial number and the thumb piece, I think 1967 shipping is a near certainty. As David wrote, that would make it slightly too new to be classified as C&R.

Thanks. Oh well. I will have to pass on it because I refuse to give the State of MD my money or prints for a handgun qualification license, which you need to buy a non C&R handgun.
