I am a newbe to the group; I have been reading the forums for over a year and until now never needed to post a question.
I am a multiple Smith and Wesson gun owner. The newest being the 15-22, one of the best plinkers I have ever had!!

On to the question:
My wife's father was killed in a car wreck and when my mother and law was "cleaning" she came across a couple hand guns. All of which we are able to determine age and so on, with exception of this Model 10-8 .38 Special ctg.
I did read the post about how to help identify them. I cannot load a picture as hard as I have tried.
Here is the information that it requested.
Mod-10-8 under the yoke
There is a assembly number that I was told wasn't needed
It is a hand ejector
Serial number on the butt is 9D610XX
.38 S&W Special CTG on right side of barrel
4 inch barrel
Fixed sights
There is a strain screw
There is no butt swivel
I only count 3 screws on the side. (maybe under the grip?)
2 above the trigger and 1 one holding the grip
I found on the forum this picture, it looks the same as what I have

Found in this post first picture

Thank you for your help in this matter.

Should I even ask valve?

I know without seeing hard to do, but the picture I linked to looked to be in similar condition.

I'm sure prices will vary depending on location but around here that revolver would be worth about $350 without the Tyler T-Grip adapter... adapter is worth $25-$30.

I paid $185 for a 4" HB SB 10-6.
It's not pretty on the outside.
I ordered some OEM Magnas last night, because the factory grips are too uglied up for me to use.
It's in pieces right now. I need to thoroughly clean it and remove the surface rust.
I think a trip to the factory for it to be born again is in order.
For now, it will get cleaned/lubed/loaded/shot. Gonna keep her stoked with Hydra Shoks for the time being.
Buffalo Bore 158 LSWCHP +P will be the order of the day, as soon as I can get some.

I've gotten some great deals on guns by buying seizure/evidence guns from the LGS who buys them from a PD.
Some have been in great shape.
Some have been externally rough.
All have been mechanically sound.
I adopted the 10-6 because fixed sight HB K frames are just too darned pretty to let go to waste.

What items should I get. ((Original box, holster)
It's already 30 years old.
Might as well get the orbs items for our kid in 30 more years.

A correct box (it may be blue with a separate lid, or with a lid as part of the box) and contents would be a start. A period S & W brand holster would be nice but there were a bunch of holster makers for it then (Bianchi, Safariland, Hunter, etc.)

The gun in the photo you linked has a grip adapter, an aftermarket add-on part.
