Your gun pre dates model numbers, as Ralph says it is known as simply the S&W 357 Magnum.

Welcome to the forum, lots of good information available here. While well used your pre-27 has the very much sought after 3.5 inch barrel. The stocks however are newer than the gun as they don't have diamonds around the screw, so made sometime after 1968. These were often carried by law enforcement officers, do you know any history for this one? Again, welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forums from the Wiregrass! As others have said, a .357 Magnum that was the flagship S&W handgun at the time. It is wearing a Pachmayr grip adapter. Someone put some red nail polish on the front sight to improve visibility. You can remove the remnants with acetone (nail polish remover). Then, reapply with your favorite shade. Looks like it spent a lot of time in the holster. If you have the holster and are storing it there, get a silicone sock or gun rug and store it away from the holster. Leather can retain moisture and cause surface rusting. Enjoy!

Since this model was labeled the Model 27 a few years later, Many, including our Historian, would call it a Pre-27.
It appears to have been reblued.

Is it worth anything ? I bought a storage found ot tucked under an old bed tried running the serial number didnt come back as stolen. I called the sheriff's there supposed to come by my house to take a gander at it.

It's worth $400 to $500 retail at a guess. Plus it's a pre 27, 3 1/2 in. barrel. Minus it's worn, maybe reblued and has the wrong stocks. I's a shooter, not a collectible.
