Help me choose to carry concealed revolver

Dear Sirs, I have a question that I hope will help me to clear that I'm in another country, Uruguay, prices here are worth double that in the USA.
For concealed carry, choose from:
1) S & W Model 10 38 cal pipe 2 "bluing used NIB -------> U $ S 900.
I love the action, has a square handle, it does perhaps a little big, if not bear loads + p +. The bluing is beautiful but delicate demeanor is perhaps. It has the traditional for service handles S & W wood, are beautiful.
2) S & W model 60 -9, cal 357, with pipe 2 "used NIB ----------------> U $ S 800.
I do not like the action of the "J" is tough series, it does not compare to the "K" but it is something that could cope, it is a defensive weapon. I do not like the rubber grips., Although very functional, I like the traditional wooden service.

These are both well built functional guns. If possible, go the the seller and try wearing each gun as you would on a normal day. If one fits, is comfortable and is better hidden that's likely the one that would serve you best.

I think either would work great. It depends on what you prefer. The 60 may be a little easier to conceal and gives you the ability to shoot 357 magnum or 38 special.

I've been carrying a J frame for well over 40 years and found them to be adequate for my needs in retirement now. They do require regular range time to stay proficient b/c the J can be carried in more ways than the K snub, at least IMHO.

I own both the short barreled K-frame 38 (a Model 10-5) and several of the smaller frame guns as well. If you are going to actually carry it on a regular basis, I honestly believe that the smaller J-frame gun would be more desirable and practical. As with all firearms, practice is essential to become comfortable and familiar with the little guns, but you will find that with some use, the action will probably smooth itself somewhat and you will become used to it as well. Some people suggest that having the sixth round in the cylinder is important, but I feel like five being carried comfortably is preferable to six left at home, es verdad?

The 60-9 in 357 and shoot 38 specials unless the 357 is ok but the 2" barrel is going to bark with magnum loads. I have a Ruger six series in 357 with a 2 3/4" barrel it's a handful with stout loads. I ccw a redhawk 44 most of my life. I like the 6" and longer barrels but the s&w m58/4" is growing on me. The N frame is a tad plus in the weight department.

I ccw revolvers with two speed loaders.

I own J and K frames. The snubby K frame is pretty easy to conceal carry with the right holster and clothing combination. The trigger is also much better on the K frame models, which means better accuracy when firing double action. The extra weight of the K frame can help subdue recoil and allow you to return on target faster for more accurate followup shots. As you noted in you post, .38 Special +P defensive loads are more than adequate for most applications.

I love J frames, but if I had to pick one over the other, I'd go for the K frame snubby, especially given that the information you provided. It sounds like the perfect carry piece.

Well, first is how hard or easy is it to buy 38spl or 367 mag ammo?

Considering that both are about the same size I would go with the 60. It can fire both 38spl and 357. But if one caliber is hard or impossible to find then that would dictate my purchase. The action can be smoothed out by firing the gun with or without ammo. And grips can be changed but it all depends on what's available in Uruguay

Like most shooters the K frame will be easier to shoot, and they are not that hard to hide. If I could only have one it would be the Model 10.

Believe it or not, the Governor is not that bad to carry concealed. I carry one nearly every day. It is something to consider.

I know this is not one of your choices, but the best concealed revolver is the one you will carry the most. I have a Model 60 and a dozen or more other handguns.
But the one I always carry is my J frame 642-1 Airweight no lock. It's always in my right front pants pocket. Sometimes I'll carry another weapon or maybe two more, but the 642 is always there. I also carry a seven round speed strip in my left rear pocket.
At night it goes on the nightstand and when I get dressed it goes in my front pocket. The only time I'm not armed is when I'm in the shower. Good luck with your search.

Pera, greetings to you, and welcome to the forum,

You have two fine choices to consider.
How will you actually carry the revolver? Consult with the authority that issues your carry permit. They may specify how the gun is to be carried. For example, in Canada, if I recall correctly, any handguns carried pursuant to a "License to Carry" (aka LTC) have to be carried in a holster on the belt.

If belt carry is your choice or mandated by law, I would choose the M10.
If pocket carry is legal and preferred, I would choose the M60.

I'd much rather belt carry a J frame than try to pocket a K frame...

In other words the J frame is more versatile in carry options. One less round, true, but also more than half a pound lighter comparing all-steel to all-steel.

I own several J frames, but my favorite carry is the 340/360 series ( scandium, titanium, etc.). Very light, exceptionally strong, and at 13+ oz. at my age (68) every ounce less weight makes a difference

I have been carrying concealed for about fifty-four years and have come to this conclusion after all this time. What I feel is the closest to ideal concealed carry revolver from a civilian standpoint is the S&W Model 640-1. The only thing that can be improved on, especially for pocket carry, is the issue synthetic stocks!
