Help me decide which M&P to buy

That's good to know. It sounds like optic for target shooting is good but bad for SD, and vice versa. I may wind up putting the optic on then a small CT rail laser for SD. I hate to "tacticool" the pistol out but either constantly practicing my draw every single day or running a setup like that sounds like the only way to make both work. Then again, the rail laser has to be turned on so I would actually need a laser grip and that would be more money than I want to spend. Just not sure. Might just do like you, buy one and then remove it if I want to later. Or run my SR22 for defense until I can save up for an M&Pc

UPDATE : My M&PPC finally got into my hands today. Trigger is a little gritty but I will let it break in then polish it and go from there. Still better than my SD40VE was.

One thing that stinks though is I kept reading they came with steep coupons for a variety of red dot sites. Mine came with none. Test fire date was late July, maybe they stopped sending them. Or maybe someone at Bud's or the LGS took them. It might be worth it to call S&W on Monday and ask

Yeah I looked under the top and the bottom of the foam. Can't find any at all. Of course the LGS got to pilfer through it before I got there so who knows

Edit : If they came with Jpoint coupons and anyone has one they didn't use, I'd be happy to take it off your hands :)

I'd be glad to send you mine but I don't think you need it. On the coupon it says "Use coupon code 01SW0212 when ordering online or over the phone." I don't see an expiration on the coupon. If you still want the actual coupon PM me with your mailing address. One thing it does say is that it's only good for purchases directly from JP Enterprises Inc. so I take that to mean is you can't use it to buy at a LGS or an online retailer except JP.

Awesome! how much is it for? I can't find a place to enter code on the website, might have to call

I do not know if you have made a purchase yet, but I have an M&P 40 with a 357sig barrel on order. I may in the future get a 9mm barrel also. I say get what you feel the most comfortable with, but I would do it in 40 and get an extra barrel. Seems like the most bang for the buck. Hope this helps in your decision.

I have the Pro Core in 40mm with a Trijicon RMR06 (3.5 dot) and find it to be one of the most accurate guns I have. RMR06's dot size changes as you brighten it and I haven't found any lighting that it isn't very visible in.

I have the 5" barrel with the higher suppressor sights and the red dot co-witnesses perfectly. I wouldn't have anything shorter. I have plenty of 9mm's i like so the only conversion barrel would be a 357 sig, which I have for my H&K P2000sk 40mm.

The Core is not my frequent carry gun but I did get a nice holster locally (XFOXX holsters) and, while the barrel end sticks out a bit it conceals ok for an OWB holster - carried it the other day - and so far 500 rounds the trigger is better than I anticipated so I'm holding off on any Apex.

It's what I would recommend highly.

I love my mp40c. I wanted a 9mm at first but the local gun store was out and 9mm ammo was do hard to come by at the time I just went ahead and got the mp40c. Now I'm glad I did. I have really took a liking to th 40 cal round. And at my local gun shop 40 cal is always available and doesn't really cost much more than 9mm. This gun is so versatile with different barrel choices. I have a friend that Carey's his mp40c with the mp40 full size barrel.

Have M&Ps full size, compact, Shield and the 22 among other guns. My number one gun if I could only have one would be the M&P 40c with Crimson Trace laser grips. It's compact enough, has enough firepower and ammunition is available for it. The full size is too big to carry. If carrying is the primary goal of getting the gun, the Shield would be a better compromise. Guns are like vehicles, you aren't going to find one gun that will do all things well. Even the 40c is loaded with compromises.

Interesting every one got into the sights.
I have a M&P 40 and a genuine S&W M&P 9mm barrel which is interchangeable. Swap mags and I have the best of 9 & 40. The 40 is the right idea, plink 9mm all day and then load up.

I am pleased with the gun so far. I think I may layaway an MP40c next for carry. I've carried this new 4.25" core and its doable because I'm a big guy but I think the 40c would be better for carry. The shields are nice too but I like the compact because it is still very viable on the range

Exactly why I retired my 3rd gen's from carry. I now carry a 40c. LOVE IT!

The CORE is nice, but the Standard is more than sufficient. Plus, it is easier to carry and faster to point. Get a standard .40 and drop an Apex kit in it. Get a 9mm barrel and mags and you can shoot both 9 and 40.

One problem I have had dropping the 9mm barrel into the CORE .40 is that occasionally it ejects one of the spent casings straight into my forehead lol.. Other than that it's been pretty good. Shooting 40 has been perfect

RE: Help Me decide which M&P to buy

Michael256;
I looked at both the Pro CORE models in 4.25 & 5" yesterday.
(They also have a 5" CORE & 5" Pro Series CORE in .40 S&W.)
This was a learning process for me, since I initially thought the CORE series were ALL Pro Series. This is not the case.

Because I frequent Front Sight, NV, taking their courses, I stay with 9MM for the economics, on a retired police offciers income!
If carrying, then a larger caliber in .357 or .45 is my preference.
I plan to buy the M&P-9 Pro Series CORE 5" today, because the Pro Series CORE has raised 3dot sights in the event your 3 dot fails. The plain CORE has standard 3 dot sights.

Since you plan to carry at times, I suggest the 4.25" model is the one for you. Be sure to buy the Pro Series CORE model, for the better trigger action.

Good luck in your decision.

Jim

Help me decide which M&P to buy

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can afford only one for the foreseeable future, so here is what I want.

M&P Pro Core 9mm 5"

That being said, it's really hard to find either the 5" model or the 4.25" model anywhere in Alabama.

I have seen the .40 4.25" though a good bit online. Can get one for $589 from Buds. Haven't seen a 5" in .40 yet either, atleast not at a reasonable price.

Here is what I am wondering. I want to be able to target shoot with no issues, and I would like to put an optic on it as soon as I can afford to (looking at a JPoint). But I do plan on buying a Cross Breed for it to carry.

Here are the questions I have :

Should I buy the 4.25" if I plan on carrying it some? I really like the looks of the 5" and wouldn't mind the barrel size at all, as well as I think I'd like the fiber optic sights for target, but if it prevents carrying I guess I would be okay with the 4.25". And I will eventually put an optic on it so sights won't matter too much.

I want 9mm for ammo prices, but should I buy an .40 instead and then just get a Storm Lake 9mm conversion barrel and have 2 calibers on one??

Lastly - Since I can't find a 5" Core Pro anywhere, would I be better served to buy a standard M&P Kit (with holster, case, mag holders, etc) and then just upgrade the trigger with Apex stuff and try to find a dovetail adapter for an optic? Maybe a storm lake or match barrel in the future?

I made an account just to ask these questions, so if anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it !

Michael256; Sri I omitted the range carry kit; that is the best deal going im mho. I have students who have bought this, and the price continues to drop.
You can't beat it, and considering Blade-Tech gear Plus the UpLulu,
buy it.
Best Price in the Charlotte, NC metro area is $540. for either 9 or 40 model.

Jim
