Help! My cat is on a hunger strike!

Having seen a few cats react negatively to new arrivals (not that cats like any change), I'd say your cat feels threatened. What it's really starving for is reassurance and attention. You need to spend some serious quality time with it.

We learned to put the new arrival in its OWN room, with its own food, water and litter box. This gives the new animal a secure area, while allowing the original animal(s) time to get used to the new arrival. We found the sun room, which has a glass and screen slider, works great for this purpose.

My son changed his cats brand of kitty litter and the cat went on strike. No one knows where or if...It just can't be found.
Bottom line is that the cat trained my son...he went back to the previous brand. you didn't do anything so foolish as change brands, did you?

You are seeing his protest to bringing something new into the home to take some of his affection. Show him love and he will come around. He will not starve himself. Let him know he is still important and hewill loosen up.I would represent this to a toddler that is into everything going to retired Grampas house.

OK.
I'm going to risk the wrath of all the cat owning Forum members and say.
If it doesn't work out, invite the family and/or friends over for sweet and sour?

One of my biggest challenges is to keep our 18+ year old eating. I bitterly contest every ounce of weight he looses.
I agree with Amici put the puppy in another area where he can not be seen or heard, give the Siamese as much reassurance as possible and feed him in his usual place. A pinch of Tuna almost always works to get them interested.
Make sure the Siamese knows he is still king, it won't bother the pup. Dog slobber can ruin a cats day.

Just keep an eye on your cat, he's making his disapproval known. If he should show signs of jaundice, or alot of weight loss, he may have ended up with a "fatty liver". Things get very serious at that point.

Aw C'mon 88!
I get that every summer and I do just fine by backing off to no more than 6 Cuba Libra's, or a 12 pack of Bud's nightly during hot weather?

another thing to check is his teeth....older cats lose them and can no longer eat hard dry food...if this is the case...go to soft canned food...you will be surprised

Simple, buy some "BUTT" flavored cat food. A cat or a dog will lick their butts when they won't do anyting else. so it must not taste that bad. Just get some butt flavored cat food!

Cats like variation, but not wholesale change.

Have your puppy bring a dead animal carcass into the yard (bunny, hamster, whatever you can get).
The siamese just considers the dog a lousy hunter and stupid-looking cat until it sees the dog can kill game...

Right.

Because you just can't have too many animals so stupid they have to be taught not to crap where they live and who leave their turds laying where they fall..........

Two defects cats aren't afflicted with.

Ok! He's eating a little. I've given him some tuna,I've also moved his food into the next room "Away from the pissy paper towels we've been putting in the trash". My wife says he's lost weight since moving from Spartanburg to Bishopville "She knows when I've gained an ounce" so she's probably right. My brother-in laws Siameese got some kind of sickness and lost weight like crazy "He let his die horribly by not taking it to the Vet when he had the chance".So I'll take him to the Vet Friday.
"Thanks"

I glad to hear he is eating. Good Luck at the vet.
Tuna is not a complete cat food and cats become addicted to it. So use it sparingly. Fancy Food makes a lot of small cans of cat food based upon Tuna. It's very popular with most cats.
In order to keep our old Abby eating I put just a little of the Tuna based stuff on his regular food. Smell is very important to cats; the smell of his food is what will get him started.

Moving the dog urine smell away was a very good idea.

I think the vet will advise you to shift him to mostly canned food. It has a higher moisture content which is very good for older cats. With any luck he will live to be 20, but you will have to help.
If you have an old baby scale around or have a family member who is not using one, get it out and start weighing the old boy once every couple of weeks. The quickest way to tell he has a problem is weight loss.
