Help pricing k22 outdoorsman 1st model

I could buy an outdoorsman k22 1st model with the red box included for 2395.00 It is at least 95 to 99%..Is this price too high?

I don't think so. Condition of the box? A red box will bring $600.00 and up depending on condition. A K-22 in the conition you describe is $1800.00 to $2000.00.

The box is not ripped at all.It is in great shape.I have to pay 6% tax also so the price will be about 2550.00

I would also suggest a factory letter, thats another $50.00, so, your up to $2600. I don't think thats bad at all.

While I have seen a few sell for that much,unless you're well-heeled and desperate to get one,I'd look a while longer. Neither of these came with the boxes when I bought them. Found those here. I've got about $1,100 total in them.

Times have changed considerably. Once was a time when I feathered my nest with RMs, some blue, some nickel, others refinished (and I wasn't all that picky) for under $1000 each, with many notable ones for $600 or so. And like a fool I sold a bunch of K22s for under $500.

But those times were in the past. Keep in mind there are still lucky guys who cheat their sellers and find the guns you're looking at for under $500 each even today. But no one who knows what they have will be selling for those prices.

I enjoy telling the story about buying a red Outdoorsman and a gold Masterpiece box for $20 each. That as in the early 1990s. Those times are long gone, too. The prices quoted above seem to be fair prices in today's market. If you disagree, email me with what you've got to sell at the low prices you think are fair.

Now back to the thread. There is a huge difference between a 95% and a 98% gun. I refuse to get involved with someone saying they can rate a gun at 96% or 97%, or 99%. They can't do it repeatably. Nor does their rating system convey much to a guy on the other side of town or across the country.

I doubt if you can buy a 98% gun for under $2000. There was a time when that figure was just out of reason. I don't think it is these days. Ask the big time purveyors like Lee or David Carroll. Better still, review their list of items for sale. Remember, the bar has been set fairly high because we're talking about a top condition gun with its box. No one would call it a steal at the price quoted, but he's not having sex with you, either.

I might pay that for a totally 100% 1st Model in a perfect box with all contents.

I don't think a 95% gun in its box ought to break $1750 at this point, though I acknowledge there is a lot of interest in the 1930s era K-22s recently, and their prices have been climbing.

There is a big difference between what I think things are worth in the broad market and what I am willing to pay for them in order to guarantee ownership. If this gun calls to you, buy it and don't look back.

THe question can be asked different ways. First, what was the price for that gun 1 year ago? What do you expect it to be a year from now? Given the same rate of price increase?

What kind of return are you seeing from your 401k or IRA? If you have, say, $2500 sleeping in your checking account, how much interest will the bank pay you? Don't forget you've got to pay income tax on the huge earnings. And then how much will it buy one year later, given inflation? You really can put numbers to those questions. Don't buy it if you aren't eating regularly, or if you sleep under interstate bridges, etc.

I have to agree with David. The pre war K-22s are some of S&Ws finest products. I have more than a handful of them and I still find myself looking for more - especially ones with boxes and goodies...

Do a little more research.

A very early s/n gun would add to the value. So would a later issue one with original humpback hammer and magna grips. Perhaps post pics or the s/n for better input. The devil is in the details.

Not 1st year production, but too early for HH and magnas. Doesn't sound like anything out of the ordinary. For a 95% gun, I would think more like $1400 – they aren't rare. For a very good box add maybe $400. $2200 is high to me, thinking a good price would be closer to $1800 for the package. I would expect a higher grade gun for $2200. If a $400 premium doesn't bother you, go for it.
