I'm looking at a Model 27-2 5" with SN N3560xx. The seller says it's 1963, but that seems too early. Anyone have a better date? What would you pay for this in what appears to be 98%, but with no box or papers?

Which barrel length? There is a 50+% value difference between the least and most expensive 27-2 lengths.

shipped in about 1976

Yes. In 1963, they still had S prefix serial numbers. Moreover, the S numbers never reached 356,000. So I have no idea where he got that information. The 27-2 was released in 1961, so that isn't what he was talking about, either.

The 5" barrel Model 27 revolvers are highly regarded and tend to command a slightly higher price than those with a longer 6" or 6 1/2" barrel. A 98% gun without box and papers would easily sell for $800 or more up here. There is one for sale on a popular auction site right now. Same vintage as yours and also with the 5" barrel. Current bidding is up to nearly $800. I expect it will go higher.

I hope this helps.

Sorry, missed that detail in your post...agree with Jack's estimate at the high end, I would probably offer $700 or so.
