I recently purchased a 5906 sold as New Old Stock.

Love it , shoots great.

It came in a blue S&W case and 1 - 10rd mag.

Santa brought me a SCSW Vol 4 for Christmas.

I can't seem to find the serial number in the listings. KMF prefix

Also, the production code is in the 5906 listings, but it has U after it.

Also it has a "?" , and IDK if the 011519 is the special order code. Or if the 12374 means anything.
Any help would be appreciated.

The 5906 and 5946 with U suffix 108176U and 108186U mostly have date codes 011119 or 011419 on box ends but on several I querried SW about, most come up Manufactured 1995-1998. But one 5946 with VJP prefix I have came up 2009 (checked SW twice) and I also have a VJP prefix 6946 less than 20 off the 5946 s/n and the 6946 dates from 1998.

Supposedly these were either 1. manufactured from spare parts or 2. returned unissued from previous LE contracts or 3. returned from SW sponsored Gun Events. You can get all 3 answers but all speculation and maybe some of each. I am guessing my 2009 oddball is made from spares, but those made in 1995-98 fall into one of the other categories. Lots of them out there - guessing in the low hundreds of 5906 maybe less 5946.

The U is not stamped on the frame. It is in the production code on the label.

Per query to SW, the U suffix on P/N indicates it was not sold as "New" and should also be stamped on frame generally at front of trigger guard. I have seen both U and T stamps there and occasionally elsewhere on frame - no idea what "T" indicates. And there are no doubt escapees that missed the stamp - but if it is on end label its Old Stock, not being sold as New by SW - even though it probably is legitimate NOS.

I looked it over again and sure enough, a U is stamped on the right side just ahead of the S&W logo by the trigger guard.
