I just acquired an Ideal #45 lubricator, similar to the 450 and the Lyman 4500. I need to know how to load it. I can't find directions online. This is about 50 years old, worked good for the first 200 bullets but now I need to put another tube of lube in it even though it seems to have 2" of lube still in it. Do I need to take out the center rod and load it or how do I adjust the center rod?

You know how to crank the top down to force the lube out to the bullet... well, crank it the opposite way to bring the washer/seal up and out the top - put a new tube over the center rod and crank the washer down again.

Thanks 125JHP, I found a instruction manual for the #45 finally!!

Congratulations on landing one of the finest lubers on the market IMHO.
You'll really enjoy how easy it is to change sizing dies. I don't know if the instructions you have mention it, but when you go to put the top plunger back in the reservoir, it helps to compress the brass ring slightly as you try and engage the threads.

if you havent clean it It would be a GOOD idea BEFORE you break the handle . and be carefull what lube you use . The 45 is good press but was ment for soft or warm lube

Thanks, for all your help! The #45 is up and running!

Thanks 125JHP, I found a instruction manual for the #45 finally!!

Where can I get a copy of the instruction manual, please?
I have one that I'm thinking of buying of a friend's widow and need to know a few things before I say yea or nay. Also, if I say nay, I need to tell her what to sell it for.
Right now it has one punch and, I assume, matching sizing die. The punch has 321 on it, I haven't been able to get the die portion out and need some suggestions on easing it out without hurting anything.
Finally, where does one find additional dies/punches for it? I have a Lyman book, but the new stuff looks considerably hardier than this one does.
Thanks.

I have a 450 & a 45 lubrisizer. I might mention that the lube may be "petrified". If you invert & carefully warm it up, with a heatlamp or propane torch, most of the old goo will drain out. I use 50/50 or White Label BAC. I highly recommend The White Lube Products. Get the type with the hole in it rather than the solid sticks. Also, the seals (O rings) may need replacing. They can be found at most Automotive supply store.

Like 125JHP says, crank it the opposite direction and the piston will back out, then add new stick and crank it down.

I like the 45 press as it is more ergonomic ...for me atleast.
