As embarrassed as I am to admit it on this forum, the last three hand guns I have acquired have not been Smith and Wessons.
I recently got a 1960 vintage Browning HP. It is sort of a transition gun, internal extractor but no thumb print. Way post war but pre T-series.
Anyhow..... I was wondering if anyone had a case from this late 50's/early 60's time frame that they could post a picture of so I could know what to look for. I have the case for my C-series, so I know the rough dimensions for a High power case, just curious about the zippers and Browning insignia and such. Thanks for the help

I know there is probably a Browning forum somewhere, but I'm sure there is plenty of knowledge between these pages. Thanks again

Very possible. Your right though, I'm not a Browning aficionado, but in 40 years of going to gun shows I've never seen one of those boxes.

You might check out the 1911 forum, they have a BHP subforum and it's quite active, with some good information. I have a mid-'80s MkIII, and have learned a lot from the guys there, but can't help you with your question.

Hi-Power rug made in Belgium

Mine is a mid 1980's, marked made in Belgium, assembled in Portugal, external extractor, no thumb print, spur hammer, came with two original mags and the Browning tag gun rug. Outer material is like heavy canvas duck (like Carhart jackets), quilted and stitched very nicely, interior lining is (according to tag), "new felt fabric", also quilted. The material tag says "materials covered by international patent law in French (I think). No vinyl/plastic materials anywhere that I can see.

Gun is sweet, very accurate at 10 yards with Winchester White Box ball ammo, didn't know the rug is unique and maybe obsolete as I haven't seen another one like it in my travels.

The 'case' is a big upgrade over the earlier versions!

My 1970 BHP came with the black vinyl red lined case. I have been told by Browning collectors that they came with a box. It was very cheap card board in a faded purple color. Most gun dealers threw them out when thy received a shipment. This may be incorrect.

From what I just learned from the BrowninG high power collectors forum, The guns came from FN in the redish/purpleish cardboard boxes and BrowninG actually put them in the nicer boxes or the black pistol rugs.

And yes the capital G in browning is intentional, If you look at the logo, that is how it is spelled.......the things you learn on the internet.

This box is what my Austrian Police contract HP came in. I think it is a early to mid-50's era box.

My first HP, bought in 1969 at the Schweinfurt Rod and Gun Club, for $66, was in a cardboard box, long gone, as is that pistol, sold for med school tuition.

Later, bought a used one from a LGS, and it came in a green zippered soft pouch.

Cylinder & Slide tuned all three of my HP's. Magnificent handguns. SF VET

My response is not about the packaging but of the configuration of the OPs gun, w/internal extractor and no thumb print. Below is a photo from "The Browning High Power Pistol", by R. Blake Stevens with those features, and much more. The SN is pretty close. I doubt the British contract guns from the early '50s came with a fancy pouch/rug.

Also pictured is my E prefix British contract HP (with thumb print) from 1951-1953.

They do come across Ebay from time to time, if your as serious as I was you just keep hunting, one will show up. I also check G.B. I've owned at least six Hi Powers, only a couple came with cases...gotta have a case.
