I just scored a hard to find (around here anyways ) box of 35 cal Remmington 200 grain Soft Point Core-Lokt. Question ....is there a born on date / code on the box somewhere...the price tag was 5.88... Box of 20. Just trying to find out how old they are. thanks for any help.

If you want to know if it's shootable it is. Unless stored in bad conditions ammo can sit for decades. I'm shooting ammo from the 30s-50s now in some guns and 60s-70s in other guns.

Check the end flaps for code numbers and contact the company by E-mail. I have received an answer from Remington on some old .22 ammo that I bought recently.

Look also on the inside of the end flaps. There may be a printed or stamped lot number on the inside.

Based on that price I'd put the date in the late 70's. Rifle ammo has pretty much quadruped in price since that time so what sells for 24 dollars per box of 20 would have sold around 6 bucks back in the late 70's.

BTW, if you are wondering if it's still shootable I'd be inclined to say it is. Because I was shooting at a local rifle range last weeked and one of the other shooters was using a 1903-A3 Springield with WWII vintage 30.06. Some of those rounds were distinctly green but they all seemed to fire just fine.

My Turkish 8mm mauser dated 1937 all goes bang. My reloads from the 70's all goes bang. If it's clean ammo in the box it's probably good stuff. My ammo is stored in 50cal ammo cans so it's kept dry.
