Do they have the shooter? YES!

It rankled me that the media made this dweeb out to be some sort of elite death dealing omnipotent deity straight from John Wicks soiled underwear for a 200 yard missed headshot.
Turns out the captured twerp falls far short of the magnificent specimen he was purported to be.
Yesterday my wife was home soaking up everything the media was putting out from all these so called experts. Never heard of some guy named Willie Cunningham, but she sent me a screenshot of some stuff he said. I'm just shaking my head at some of it.IMG_8504.webpIMG_8505.webp

The is a video out that showed Kirk was wearing a vest under his shirt and that the bullet struck the west, apparently deflecting upward into his neck. The impact on the vest is clear.

Standard viewing cautions apply.
No expert here, but that looks fake to me.

If only the Governor read this before he passed on what you call fake news in his press conference...the press conference that stated what the anti-fascist message said.
My post was specifically about the picture of the casing that the WSJ posted. I stand by my conclusion that their reporting (and their fact checking that we should expect and demand from "reputable" sources) was a farce. The image they showed never supported their claims and it unfortunately "got legs" and spread.

I have no control over - and no opinion about - what the Governor said in his press conference. From the searching I did, he didn't show any images of the shell casing, but the WSJ did - and they got it wrong.

I saw this too ... And shook my head at all of it

and I wasn't commenting on anything other than what has been confirmed by people who are doing the investigation. And yes, I heard the update in real time and before I posted.
I don't read the WSJ in print or online, my info was from the investigative sources.
I stand with the people on the ground IN UTAH doing the actual work.

Should be no real surprise though. The drive-by media has a track record of filling in the blanks with nonsense when they have no factual data to report but still have airtime to fill.

I've read and heard lots of speculation by "experts". No one will know for sure until a lot more information is available. News outlets run unvetted stuff to beat their rivals. It wasn't a particularly easy shot, downhill (shots are high) a breeze, mirage in the heat, one of those situations where a move one way or another would have meant a miss.

The joke is that a little time with a ballistic calculator and doing some math reveals a 3° angle shot (assuming 30' elevation at 200 yards) that would be 3.5" low for a rifle zeroed at 100 yards. There's not enough downhill to make a big difference.

Wind? Plug in whatever numbers you like. 5 mph full value wind pushes the average 30-06 hunting bullet 1.5". Was it windy there?

For sure, in calm conditions at 200 yards is a chip shot for 30-06 if the rifle has a half decent trigger..

"...200 yards is an incredibly difficult shot..."
Huh? From prone? With a scope? When I was his age, I hit targets all day long at 250 meters with my M-14 and iron sights.

The media is doing what the media does best right now which is repeating unsubstantiated rumors and reports, interviewing "expert" pundits who are not involved in the investigation and can only speculate, and getting quotes from athletes and movie stars who are insignificant in our lives. Basically, they are entertaining the masses.

In the meantime the law enforcement investigators are doing their due diligence to build the case and tie up the loose ends. Could take weeks at best.

Banter about the rifle, the shoot is arm chair BS. What I can't get out of my mind is a video clip of Charley's 3 yr old daughter running to him on a photo set. Makes you want to scream.
Now we have a sorry piece of protoplasm that isn't old enough to have experienced any worldly serious problems, kill a guy for his morals. They got the shooter, I hope they get the guy behind the curtain that stoked this idea in shooters head.

Charlie Kirk's death and his wife's speech will change the outcomes of many upcoming contested elections and Gov. Cox is a person who could be a moderate candidate for POTUS in the future, as was Romney in the past.

I'm interested in the family interaction prior to the murder. How much did they know, why wasn't it reported, etc.
I'd speculate that they saw their son "drinking the koolaid" but an event like this would have developed far too quickly to contain.
The family is well past the disbelief stage and recognized that the boy went all in

perhaps, but we can't go there from here.
Before you dip your toe any deeper, i'll stop you at a wet sock

a frightened daughter ran to her father for protection. She couldn't know her defender was gone.
Makes you wish there was a perfect drug to facilitate a nice clean memory wipe

curious if the ATF ran a serial number search on the rifle...even of where/how he obtained it. yes I heard it was legally bought
Running a serial number search on a 100 year old Mauser 98, is like trying to find a tagged goldfish in a feeder fish tank at PetSmart.

They might trace the gun through local purchases/gun boards, friends that may have sold it to him, dad, etc. However, a straight serial number import trace might be wildly difficult. There are probably dozens of Turkish Mauser actions alone that share an exact serial number and those were imported by the shipping container full about a twenty years ago. That's just one subset of Mausers. Then there's modified German actions, Czech, Argentine, Spanish and the list goes on.

They have the shooter and a statement. I would imagine that his Dad knows exactly where the gun came from, or a really good idea. The guy is only 22YO, so I doubt he has had time to build an extensive collection of guns.
