Usually I try to talk to girls for a little bit, earn their trust and take them out somewhere nice. ;)

Don't forget the fake yawn with stretch to put an arm around her. But mostly - just be yourself. By the way - just to keep you out of trouble with the admins - what does this thread have to do with guns?

Sorry man, had to joke around with it. If I had information for you I'd give it but I don't have as much knowledge as some of these guys. Try delisting under a different topic title. Hope you get your answers.

Okay -- ;)

The 31 sn 57xxx is listed as 1955

The 36 sn 3538xx is listed as 1975-1976

Not sure what 1917 - if it is the US Service Model/.45 can be from 1917 to 1946

Since Darby had some useful info for you...

Back to the jokes - Try a bath more than once a week!

Did you really expect a straight answer in the first 50 replies?

Yeah. I was gonna come up with some wizearze response but it looks like everybody's got it covered. :D

And the OP got his Q answered as well. Win-win!;)

If this had been a question about real dating, I'd have advised him to avoid redheads, especially those from Texas...:D:D

Your Model 36 most likely dates to late 1963.

The Model 1917 was made in 1918.

The dash 1 variant of the Model 31 was introduced in 1961, but nowhere near the serial number range you have given.

Thank you Goony. Thank you Darby. Help is appreciated.

SW31-1 has only 5 digits, I checked twice.(what the..???)

What is the name of the book you use?

Just bought a model 36 snub, 2" barrel, square butt, #6948xx. Any idea of rough date of manufacture?

For the ones I don't know off the top of my head, the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson (often abbreviated in this forum as SCSW) is helpful in establishing an approximate date.

Your 31-1 doesn't seem quite kosher. Might be worth investing in a factory letter.

Thanks again.

I suspect the 5-digit (57XXX) serial number on your 31-1 has an "H" letter prefix making it a 1972 production. As already advised, the -1 began in 1961. The H prefix began in 1969.

Russ

Nope, only digits. I will take some pictures and post it here.
