Help with Model 10-5 SN

10-5

I think of these as "the" Smith and Wesson .38 Special revolver. One that so many LE folks used for so many years.

The standard barrel balances better (for me at least) in the hand than the heavy barrel, which does dampen recoil.

Attached a photo of mine which I got Lord knows where or when. It had a little hitch in the timing so when the big LGS had a Smith and Wesson sale and a Smith and Wesson armorer was there I took it to him.

He took it down, worked on the yoke and did all sorts of mysterious stuff with a ball peen hammer, all the while talking about how great these old revolvers were, while obviously enjoying himself. Spent maybe 10 minutes on it.

When he handed it back to me the timing was perfect, any end shake it had was gone and it felt like a brand new revolver. No charge but in lieu of payment I believe I donated $10 to a charity the shop was sponsoring.

I rarely take it to the range but it will be one of the last handguns I let go, that's for sure.
