Help with Model 29-2 ID

Hello, Just Picked up a S&W Model 29-2 Blue 80-90%,6 1/2Barrel Length and would Like to Know the MFG Year. Serial Number N60137. I Hope I am in the Right Forum. Newbee Here. Thanks

Your serial number is missing a digit for an 'N' prefix 29. If it is a 6 digit number beginning with 'N', and the 1st three numbers are correct, then it was built in '79 or '80.

Hello, Thanks for the Reply. Just Went and Re Verified the Serial Number again N60137 and inside the Ejector pin Area on the Barrel has the Same Number. I didn't take the Grips off yet.....Am I Missing Something? Thanks in Advance foor Your Help.

I apologize. Yes, your 29 serial number puts it between 69-72, which is right after they changed over from the 'S' to 'N' prefix.

You aren't missing anything. It is most likely a 71 or 72 gun.

Others may be able to pin it down closer, but the 29-2 serial number changed from an "S" prefix to an N prefix around 1969. The N series started at N1 and N60,XXX should date sometime from the early 1970's.

hrly94, here's N3 that shipped 3/5/1971. Your's may actually predate this one however due to the extenuating circumstances involved in this particular revolver's production. Only a factory letter will tell for sure.
