Did my yearly safe cleaning today. Lite wipe of CLP. When I got to the 29-2s I spend some time admiring them. Wife wants to move to assisted living and I think they might have some questions If I tried to move 7 gun safes in. Got to be ready though. Putting tags on all of my firearms with the estimated price they should sell for on them. I could put them on consignment @20% of the selling price but after babying these perfect 29s for 20 years I could not sleep if I knew people were handling them without me being there. I wanted to shoot some .44 mag so I bought a new 29 classic from S&W and I don't want yahoos handling my 29-2s. Sorry for the rambling but I have a lot to think about. Getting old sucks. OK these are the two I would like to know the year-built info on. Thank you, Mike

S&W 29-2 44 Mag 8 3/8 inch barrel SN-N456959 - 1977-78

(Standard Catalog, 3rd Edition) Quite a bit of latitude here. Someone will be along shortly to narrow down the dates.

Seems inevitable that the "yahoos" are going to be putting their hands on your 44s, and a lot more if you have seven gun safes full of S&Ws and more, unless you're planning on tossing them all in a lake before you move to your new address. Might want to sell some of them here as the resident "yahoos" will appreciate them as much as you do.

And a agree, getting old sucks.

Only three large safes and 4 smaller ones. I have sold a few firearms here a couple years ago. A 686 and a 5906 I bought new in 1992.

When the time comes, I will have to offer the S&Ws here, the M14s on the M14 firing line, M1s at The Garand Collectors Association, AR15.com for the ASSUALT weapons, sights & scopes. and if there are any leftovers my sons will store them for me. When I spoke of yahoos I did not mean this group. I am sure a pristine 29-2 will be well taken care of especially at the prices they go for.
I have seen some crazy firearm handling in firearms stores, Folks dropping firearms, dry firing rimfires, folks snaping the cylinders closed movie style etc. The shops really don't care much about the consignment pieces.
