Help with model 36 serial #

Hi -
I am looking at purchasing a model 36 revolver with a serial # 712954. It's in good shape, blued w/wood grips and 1-7/8" barrel or close to it. Price is $300. Can anyone tell me the year of manufacture and if this is a decent deal? Thanks!
